What is the purpose of vtec? is this mechanism helps for speed?

I want to laugh at the above answer, but I will just smirk a little..no biggie. Well in honda terminology vtech stands for Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control. It is more of a marketing term then the actual terminology for what is actually happening on the inside of the motor. In theory vtech allows the engine to take advantage of variable cams (both high and low lobes) electronically. The reason for the smirk is that this technology has been out for a very, very long time. Honda did not invent it nor are they the only manufacture with variable valve timing in their cars. Honda just labels it as "vtech" as some magical pill that thjeir engines have to allow them to make high rpm power. In reality the engines can rev a bit higher then their own older engines, but don't necessarily make more hp/tq.Here is what makes for faster acceleration:

vtec is hondas technology of engine power, this breakthrough helped there engines reach high rpmVTEC, similar to Toyota's VVT-i or VVTL-i, allows the engine to change its timing depending on the conditions. When power is not needed or at startup, the Intake Cam rotates to the retarded side. When power is needed, the Intake Cam rotates more to the advanced side. With the VVTL-i, not only can the engine change its timing, but it can also adjust its lift duration (i.e. change how long the intake valves are open to allow for more air/fuel intake).
