To the best of my knowledge, Sir Stirling Moss never won a race in Australia, certainly not a Formula One race; he had long retired from racing when the first Australian F1 Grand Prix was contested at Adelaide in 1985 - not 1996 as David B suggested.However, during his career, he started 72 Formula One races between 1951 and 1961 and won 16 of them. He also won the Sebring 12 Hours in 1954, the Mille Miglia 1955 and the Targa Florio 1955.

According to my motor racing 'bible', Stirling Moss won the Australian Grand Prix in 1956 when it was held in Albert Park. He was in a Maserati 250F at an average speed of 95.996mph. However, it was not a world championship race but a Formula Libre event.Incidentally, there seems to have been an Australian Grand Prix every year from 1928 (won by Arthur Waite at Philip Island in Formula h (handicap event) in an Austin 7 at an average speed of 58.5 mph - who knew Austin 7s were Grand Prix cars!) except 1936 and 1940-1946, with the first world championship race held in 1985, in Adelaide. This was won by Keke Rosberg in a Williams FW10-Honda at an average speed of 95.689 mph. I cannot compare the circuits, but it shows how fast Moss' car must have been!
