i think because a large majority of nascar fans are considered "hicks". even though far more many types of people enjoy nascar. and i'd have to say that it certainly is a sport. the kind of endurance it takes to handle and drive a car at such high speeds is a talent.my friends and i used to think it was a joke too. until a friend introduced it to us. we all picked a driver and cheered him on and since then we've become pretty hooked on it. i think most people just need the opportunity to enjoy it. or at least just open up their minds to it.

I personally find it boring but obviously there are millions of people who disagree. My mom and her husband are in love with it too.I think that it is seen as a "hick" or "hillbilly" sport because it is popular in the South. The media portrays all those from the south as dumb, inbred racists which is not only unfair but it is also very untrue.

Nascar can be compared to golf. As a kid, when I watch golf I hated it. It wasn't until I grew up and played it, until I really learned to appreciate it. So, I'm sure for most people sitting in front of a TV for about 3 hours watching cars go around in a circle is pretty boring. But if we were to sit in a car and go about 180mph racing against 70 other people, we would have the time of our life. So in short...some sports are meant to be played and not watched.Where can you get a nice atv dirt bike or gokart?

too commercial, cars are based on technology from 1950, the racing is boring because you only turn left. All the cars look the same but look nothing like 'stock'Road Racing (Speed GT), ALMS and WRC are far more interesting and you can actually buy most of the cars that race. 45 cars and several manufacturers.
I'm a big nascar fan too! People who don't like it just don't know. They think it's not a sport and that it's stupid to just turn left, but if all those people went to see an actual race in person, they'd love it too. You can't beat the fast cars going by, the loudness of the engines, and the smell of that fuel. Awsome!! What other sport can you get up close and personal with the sports figures, And spend 3 days in the same place the sport is going on, and just have a big 3 day party?

Why does everyone rate Kimi Raikkonen so highly?
Not everyone hates it, clearly. It's a multimillion dollar industry. However, it is my observation that many of the fans, especially here (I don't pretend to be global in my generalization) are rednecks or hillbillies. The swill beer, wear cut-off shorts and belly shirts (guys and girls, and lemme tell you it's not a pretty sight), and use poor grammar. It's almost as if they were putting on a southern accent too. Yeck! To me it's a loud, repetitive, dirty sport and since I am not into cars, gears and tires, it is not in the least interesting to me. Maybe many of the people you know feel the same way. Nonetheless, if you enjoy it, enjoy it! Just because I don't like it, or others don't like it, should not dampen your enthusiasm for the sport.THEY'RE JEALOUS THAT THEY CAN'T DRIVE A STICK SHIFT CAR AT 180+ MPH W/OUT STALLING. LOL
I love NASCAR, i have a nascar crazy bro and my dad loves it too. I also like to go to the dirt races, and watch the Late Models race on the 1/2 mile... that provides a good dose of adrenalin!

Because they don't understand the level of training it takes to have the endurance to handle a piece of machinery like a stock car for 500 miles of hard racing. They don't even consider it a sport because they haven't taken the time to pay attention to what it takes to get a car out of the pits in 14 seconds after changing 4 tires, filling the fuel cell, and possibly making handling corrections at the same time.
Don't worry about what they think. Enjoy Sunday afternoons anyway!

I prefer open-wheel racing; I'm not a NASCAR fan, but I don't hate it (I do understand it) and I don't think you know me. :-DI know how you feel, I went to a race last year and LOVED it and was all excited to tell people about it..and most of them looked at me like I was crazy or wasnt really interested in hearing about it. *rolling my eyes* LOL Oh well, I still love it :D GO KASEY KAHNE!!
