Nascar Raceday Payouts?

Question:Why does a Nascar Racer who did better make less in one race than a racer who took 1 place worse
example: Yesterdays race in Arizona..Jeff Burton Placed 9th and Jeff Gordon Placed 10th.Gordon got payed more but did worse by one place.Neither of them led a lap or took the pole.Why did Gordon make more?

Points has a little to do with it, it's mostly his stable and sponsors that determine his percentage .
