How does NASCAR work?
I don't understand it. There are some 20 cars, and they're not starting from a starting line, so doesn't that mean that the racer in the front has a huge advantage over the racer that's starting in the very back?

There are time trials to see who starts at what position. The driver and team are rewarded with higher starting position. It would make no sense to have the slow ones in front, it would be dangerous when the faster cars come up thru the pack. There is enough strategy during the race to even things out, like when to pit, should you change tires, making adjustments to the car's handling, fuel usage is also critical. There's always the likelihood of accidents, and a driver who started last can move up several positions or a faster car might be knocked out of the running. How can i listen to the bathurst 1000 on the internet in australia?
There are way more than 20 cars, try 40 something. Just because a driver has the lead doesnt mean diddly. There alot of miles in a race and anything and I do mean anything can happen. The car in front is not necessarily leading the race. He or she could be on the "tail end of the lead lap." The leader can actually restart like 8th or 10th. Regarding advantage, although the lead car has the advantage of running in "clean air," faster cars or cars with fresher tires can pass him or her. Another advantage if being in the front is you are less likely to be involved in wrecks for several reasons. "The Girl's Guide to NASCAR'' by Liz Allison is a great book for those new to the sport.
