Why is NASCAR usually associated with hicks and white trash?
Are there honestly any black or asian people who enjoy this sport? I think the stereotype might just be true.

The only reason people associate NASCAR that way is because driving race cars originated with the moonshine runners. NASCAR is a legitimate business these days. And I do believe that there is or was a race track in Japan.you can only have racetracks in rural areas ie; the noise and pollution.

Well...for one thing...it is usually only hicks and white trash who follow NASCAR. That would explain why it is normally associated with them.I don't think it is a stereotype...but then again...I also do not think it is a sport either.

You are really leaving yourself open on that one...I'll be polite.For a long time, the races were basically only in the South and the sport itself has it's roots in running moonshine, not the most intellectual of occupations. Also, it plays to the lowest common denominator, it's really easy to understand and does not require a lot of thought. Most folks don't want to have to think. They go fast, and they crash, and when they crash, it's a big one. Average people like to watch things crash. I do too, but I don't try to call it racing. I call it demolition derby at the local fairgrounds.

I have been going to races since 1960 and I have seen a mix of people at these events.
The first races per say was between moonshiners on back roads to see who had the best cars.
Later these were moved to oval dirt tracks and the people from the rural areas would watch.
as the time progressed and the races moved to the out skirts of the city and more urbanites came to these events.
To day there is a vast cross section of people the "hicks" you refer to are the blue collar workers that have labored to give us the necessities of life.The "white trash" you talk about are at the football and baseball games ,the movies the mall and anywhere else not just at the races.
The Recent races at Talladega there were 2 groups of African Americans,maybe 12 to 15 people, 1 group next to us and 1 about 5 rows in front.There was a mixed group behind use that had whit,African American,And an Oriental.
As for me I'm Native American,I was cheering for Bill Lester(African American).
And if I classified anyone as white trash it would be those that had their coolers with their 6 packs swigging them down then going to the nearest refershment stand and get another 6.These are the white trash.They are not watching the race they just want to get drunk and act like idiots and then people write this sort of question or comment on these events and not on the racing fan.

I think this was originally because Nascar was pretty much only in the southern states, and its' major sponsors were tobacco companies, which also originate in the south. I think that the sport is finally starting to embrace a brouder audience. Although some people still have no idea why one can sit in front of the tv and watch a car go around in circles for hours. Well first of all not everyone who likes the sport is a hick or white trash. People from all different backgrounds like NASCAR. No stereotypes are really ever true because they just want you to hate a certain thing or believe a certain thing because they think its true. There was a driver Bill Lester who is African American and he qualified in on time for a couple of races and did okay for a no name driver and he was the first African American driver to try to qualify for a NASCAR race in a long time or for the first time.Were can i fine daytona tickets ?
I've been a racing Fan for 40 years, have attended many different types of Motor Sports for over 30 years. Yes, different Racing Venues do attract different classes of people, that's why there's Formula One, Champ Car/IRL, NASCAR, NHRA/IHRA, Sports Cars, Short Track with Stock, Open Wheel, Modifieds whether it be on asphalt or dirt, Air Racing at Reno, Thunderboats at San Diego, I've enjoyed them ALL! Of course there's always some idiots trying spoil it for everyone else. I'll probably get some 'Thumbs Down' on this one, but I do find that the NASCAR 'fans' are alot more vocal and physical, and totally ruin the whole total experience. When I was at Ontario it was Cale Yarborough, at Riverside was Darrell Waltrip, now at Fontana its a cheering match between the RCR/Earnhardt Racing and Hendrick Motorsports.
