It is important to remember that NASCAR is a dictatorship. They can fine or punish anyone at any given moment, and they have nobody to answer to. They can drop a caution flag whenever they feel like it, and they can dock someone points or make their wallet a bit lighter whenever they wish. The NASCAR rule book is nothing short of vague and confusing. NASCAR does play favorites. They are far more likely to come down harder on a rookie or an underdog, and often use them to make a point to the "others". nascar sucks. but to answer your question, i think it's fair, anyone can win. it's all about timely pit stops and making moves on the turns.It's as fair as Nascar wants it to be. But they don't let the higher points drivers get away with more things than the lower points drivers. You do remember the problem with Jimmy Johnson at the beginning of the season, don't you? He was high in points last year and Chad Knaus got suspended for 4 races. I'm not a Johnson fan, but that is just one example.
Nascar is fair but only to a point. they do let something slide but really it depends on who the driver is.

i think they try to be fair, problem is there are way to many grey areas. example, at phonix 2-3 weeks ago, bowyer is punished for aggresive driving during the busch race. during the same race, hamlin does the same thing and is not punished. i think they have a difficult job being fair and i would not want to do that job at all. however, the conspiracy theory of NASCAR's fairness or lack there of i believe stems from the amazingly loyal fans. many fans, myself included at times, believe their driver can do no wrong. therefore, it is difficult to be objective! the jimmie johnson example is great. same thing happened to harvick last year at vegas i think and he wasn't up there in points.What's the fastest part of the Bathurst 1000 track?
