first you have to let up off the gas when approaching a corner because you need to accelerate THRU the corner but you don't want to lose control.take the shortest distance. if there is a turn to the left, you'll be on the left hand side of the road in the corner and then once the curve opens you'd be back on your side (at least while driving public roads).
