One of the founding members of the Alabama Gang, Bobby Allison’s 25-year NASCAR Winston Cup career was crowned by the series championship in 1983. He also was the series runner-up five different times. A winner of 84 NASCAR Winston Cup races and 57 NASCAR Winston Cup pole positions, Allison won the Daytona 500 in 1978, 1982, and 1988 - his son, Davey Allison, finished second in the ’88 event. He is tied with Darrell Waltrip for series victories (third all-time) and pole positions (fourth all-time). Allison trails only Richard Petty for most races led (414) and is fourth all-time for most career starts (718). He was named NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver in 1971, 1972, 1973, 1981, 1982, and 1983.
