The direct drive of a standard transmission has always been preferred in any sort of track racing except for the drag racers. Aside from the road courses, as far as I know, Pocono is the only track where they shift at all while under racing conditions. I know some short track and dirt track cars use automatics, but this is primarily for reason of economics and preferred gear ratios.More Questions & Answers...
