Not that it bothers me, but why is Roger Clemens in the habit of pitching late into the season?
Question:Maybe age is the reason.

How bout them Cubs? Lilly and Marquis both looked good and the youngster Hill won tonight.?
Roger Clemens knows he's still in high demand, because he can still get the job done. However, he's a very smart guy, because he knows that he can get paid to do very little. When he decided to wait until called upon, he knew that there was a potential of teams cashing on him, which is what he wants. All Clemens is is greedy. Unfortunately, he's the smartest dumb person I know. Because the Yankees were failing miserably at their starting pitching and because they can afford to pay the next 100 presidential payrolls in one shot, they can afford Clemens' $1 million/start contract. Oh, and their GM's last name is Cashman (how ironic) and Torre's job was in jeopardy. How do you calculate earned run average, and batting average in baseball?
so he can stay strong until the end of the season when the team needs it the most. If he started at the beginning of the season he would run out of gas because of his age.If you were to build a cricket stadium (or baseball) that had a dome or was covered in some way?
He's at the end of his career so he wants to be on a winning team so he waits until he sees who he thinks with a little help can get to the world series. It might also be to shorten the season so there is less chance of injury.1. He likes to do this thing where he sees which teams can win, then after the 20 offers from different teams come to him, he looks to see who has a chance to win more.
2. As the season progresses and a team wants to win, the want to have Clemens on your team to help you win goes up, with that his price goes up.
3. Would you complain if you got $20+million to play less than a season? I wouldn't.
Who wore Jackie Robinsons number for the Blue Jays?
The year the Astros made the World Series and lost to the White Sox(2005), Clemens was suffering from severe arm fatigue throughout the playoffs.Simply put, he's too old to pitch an entire major league baseball season + playoffs. The remedy? Don't start pitching until June.
age is part of the reason at least in his mind. he's been contemplating retirement for 3 years cause he feels his body is old and it takes a lot to get in shape and go through the season. but teams will still pay him...and it gives him more time to rest. the year he's playing is closer to that of a college pitcher, which is easier on the arm
what i think is funny is that first year he did this, arbitration rules gave him a legit reason to not come back until May/June. with a change in rules he could have come back earlier, yet he chose not to.
personally i think its disrespectful to the game. the other 40 somethings that have gone through the game played full seasons. why can't he...
