Can you answer this strange rules question that actually happened?
They have expanded the number or teams many times so I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. Its generally an expansion of two teams. The oldest teams are A's, Indians, Orioles, Red Sox, Tigers, Twins, White Sox, Yankees, Braves, Cardinals, Cubs, Dodgers, Giants, Phillies, Pirates, and Reds. These 16 teams would all be original teams with their origins at or before 1900. They didn't start out with these names or in these cities, but they have all existed in some form since then. That would leave you with 14 "expansion" teams with the newext being Arizona and Tampa Bay in 1998. Expansion has been by two teams every time with the exception of 1969 when 4 teams were added. The expansion years were '61 (Angels and Rangers), 62 (Astos and Mets), 69 (Royals, Brewers, Expos/Nationals, and Padres), 77 (Blue Jays and Mariners), 93 (Marlins and Rockies), and 98(Diamondbacks and Devil Rays).
