Why arent there any left handed catcher?
Question:im looking for a specific answer...ive been trying to find this out for years..and nobody gives me an answer..im a catcher my self..im right handed of course..

There have only been 33 left-handed throwing players who caught in at least 1 defensive inning. If you exclude the ten men who only caught in a single game, then you're talking about just 23 players. If you count only those guys who caught a 100 or more games in a career, you're down to exactly five left-handed throwing catchers. If ur a lefthanded catcher and a base runner is off 2 second or third base(tryin 2 steal a base), think about the adjustment u need to make in order to throw him out.*Instead of just standind and throwing d ball, u have to move ur body sideways 2 make the throw and it could take some time which is what u need to get d runner out.

It is because a left handed thrower would have to turn ALOT farther to make a throw down to third, making it alot easier to steal 3rd on a lefty catcher.it is too hard for them to find left handed catcher mitts

As said by many, it was thought to be to hard for a lefty to throw to second, let alone 3rd and baseball so as a rule most coaches don't let lefty's play catcher. of course this arguement isn't a very good one, as in a right handed catcher would have just as much trouble throwing to 2nd or 1st with a left handed batter, but they still get the job.Yes it is hard to find a left handed catchers mitt, but I had one, and I throw (baseball anyways) with my right hand. (long story)
