Did it ever happen in baseball history where a pitcher lost a no-hitter?

Question:how? he intentionally walked a batter that ended up scoring.

What is the most under-rated team in the MLB?

Catfish Hunter pitched one no hitter, a perfect game in 1968, which he won.

The A's had a combined no hitter (thrown by 4 pitchers) in 1975, but Hunter was not one of them.

When Sandy Koufax threw a perfect game against the Cubs in 1965, the Cubs pitcher, Bob Hendley allowed only 1 hit, a double in the 7th inning by Lou Johnson, but that hit was not used to score the lone run of the game by the Dodgers.

Johnson walked in the 5th inning and later scored the only run of the game on a sacrifice, a stolen base and a throwing error.

Here's the box score and play by play for that one:

Here's an excerpt from Wikipedia:

On April 23, 1964, Ken Johnson of the Houston Colt 45's became the only pitcher to lose a complete game no-hitter in nine innings when he was beaten 1-0 by Cincinnati. The winning run was scored by Pete Rose in the top of the ninth inning via an error, groundout, and another error

In 1967, Steve Barber and Stu Miller of the Baltimore Orioles pitched a combined no-hitter, but lost 2-1 to the Detroit Tigers.

Three pitchers, Andy Hawkins (1990), Matt Young (1992), and Silver King (1890), lost eight-inning unofficial no-hitters where the home team won the game.

A game that is a no-hitter through 9 innings may be lost in extra innings. In 1917, Fred Toney of the Cincinnati Reds and Hippo Vaughn of the Chicago Cubs pitched a hitless, scoreless tie after 9 innings–the only time in baseball history that neither team has had a hit in regulation. The Reds got two hits in the top of the tenth inning and scored the winning run. In the bottom of the tenth, Toney retired the side and recorded a 10-inning no-hitter; Vaughn by rule is not credited with an official no-hitter.

(The closest any game has come since to having no hits in regulation was in 1965, when Sandy Koufax pitched a perfect game and opposing pitcher Bob Hendley of the Cubs gave up only one hit to the Dodgers; notably, the winning run in this 1-0 game was scored in the fifth inning, and the game's only hit came in the seventh).

In 1959, Harvey Haddix of the Pittsburgh Pirates pitched twelve perfect innings before losing the no-hitter and the game to the Milwaukee Braves in the 13th.

Pedro Martínez, then a member of the Montreal Expos, was the last pitcher to lose a no-hitter in the 10th inning (via a Bip Roberts double) against the San Diego Padres in 1995. Like Haddix, he too had a perfect game after nine innings.

Vaughn, Haddix and Martínez are not credited with official no-hitters because their games did not end with zero hits.

What is a good book for learning how to umpire little league (or normal) baseball?

a pitcher once threw a perfect game and lost in extra innings. i know this is a bit unrelated, but i think thats incredible.

Miami Marlins?

Yes it has happened.

How do you overcome a deep slump at the plate in baseball/softball? you know you are good, but cant get a hit.

The 1964 Houston Colt .45's Ken Johnson threw a complete game no hitter and lost against the Cincinnati Reds. As the ninth began Johnson got Joe Nuxhall to ground to third for the first out. That brought up Pete Rose, who bunted. Johnson fielded the bunt and made a wild throw over the first basemens head, allowing Rose to take second on an error. Chico Ruiz followed with a hit that richoceted off Johnson's shin to third baseman Bob Aspromonte, who threw Ruiz out at first for the second out allowing Rose to take third. Next, center fielder Vada Pinson hit a routine grounder to Nellie Fox, but Fox bobbled the grounder and his throw to first was late which enturn allowed Rose to score the winning run.

On April 12th, 1992 Matt Young of the Red Sox lost to the Indians 2-1 despite throwing 8 no hit innings. Since the game was in Cleveland they did not bat the ninth. The Indians scored one in the 1st when Kenny Lofton walked, stole 2nd then 3rd and scored on a error by shortstop Luis Rivera. Then scored one in the third when Mark Lewis and Ken Lofton walked, Lewis moved to third on a GlenAllen Hill Fielder choice, then scores on a Carlos Baerga ground ball out.

What happened to harold robbins?

it happened a few years ago, but it wasn't an official no hitter because you have to pitch at least 9 inning. He only pitched eight. Sorry I don't know who it was.

Best Field?

yes, it did happen. I believe 3 times in recorded history

Is Jimmy Rollins on roids and will he get caught?

Here's the list of all no-nitters and extraordinary efforts in MLB. A no-hitter is credited only when the teams pitcher throws every pitch of the game for his team, including in extra innings, if necessary. Anything else is considered to be an extraordinary effort, including giving up a hit in extra innings.

Only one man has pitched a no-hitter (as opposed to an extraordinary effort, and lost that game. That was Ken Johnson, on April 23, 1964. The second link is the box score to that game. As you can see, there were no intentional walks in that game. The only run of that game crossed the plate in the top of the 9th, after reaching on a 2-base error, advancing to third on a ground out and coming home on another error.

A pitcher can throw a no-hitter and still allow runs on any combination of walks, hit batsmen, fielders choices, sac bunts, sac flies and errors.

When was the last time someone pitched a perfect game?? and who was it?

well this goes beyond the question. But May 2, 1917 James "Hippo" Vaughn (Chicago-NL) threw nine innings of no-hit ball yet lost to James Toney (Cincinatti-NL) in the tenth inning when Jim Thorpe drove in the games only run with the games only hit.

Will any team in major league baseball win 100 games in 2007...?

I know I read on Jim "Catfish" Hunter's baseball card many years ago that he pitched a No Hitter & lost, but I don't remember what year it was, somewhere around 1966 or 1967-somewhere in there.

What Time does The 'Opening Day' Thing for baseball end?

yes it happens all the time.

Is this the beginning of The End?

Harvey Haddix lost a perfect game in the 13th inning and lost the game 1-0. He pitched 12 perfect innings much debate whether this was a perfect game or not

Milwakee vs. Florida postponed?

It has happen a couple of times, 64 and there is a game that can't find on reva list, in the WS a guy had a perfect game in the 11th or 12th, he struck out the first batter, but the catcher drop the ball, then over threw first base, and then was move to 3rd on a fielders choice, and sac fly got him home but they lost the game, his team only had one hit.

reva is crazy, most of what he is talking about is wrong. If you pitch 9 innings either no hit or perfect you still get credit for it. follow his link and click on any of the once that lost in extra innings and you'll see that they are credited with a no hitter. And extrondary what ever, never heard or seen that in a stat.

Can we get some love for Zack Greinke?

ummm.... you can't lose a no-hitter because a run scored. it's still a no-hitter even if it's sorta tainted 'cause a run scored.

I think seaver might have lost one on a bunt single.
