Topps vs. Upper Deck?
Question:I am wondering, if someone were to start collecting baseball cards this year, and in future years, which cards are the best to buy? I know that Topps has been around since B.C., and Upper Deck is relatively new, but which cards are 'worth' more?

Upper Deck also has exclusive deals with Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Tiger Woods, and a few other top athletes that can only sign cards with them.
You will not find or pull an auto card from any of the players listed abve from Topps.

Why are there no lefthanded catchers in major league baseball?
I have been collecting cards for many years. At first I was a fan of Topps then UD came around and their photos and card quality was soooo much better. Then all the companies started using the same stock. My opinion is that if you are going to collect cards go with Topps, they are cheaper to get a whole set. If you are doing this for investment purposes, forget it, there isnt enough money in it but if you want to try definietly go with Upper Deck. As for me I just go with Topps and have been for the past 20 years.What basball game was the longest game ever played?

The most valuable cards are those that have never been opened. Therefore- no fingerprints, no dust, no bent corners, etc. If you are just starting to collect- you can find alot of good deals at garage sales and stuff. The "box sets" will be worth the most but it takes a long time.I got a box-set of "tops" that had never been opened at a garage sale for $20.00. This set was over 40 yrs. old. As soon as I told someone they offered me $200.00. (this was like 30 min. later.) I didn't sell it.
It's a great hobby that doesn't require a ton of cash, doesn't take up a lot of room, can be saved for your kids, and can be enjoyed by boys or girls.
Ultimitely...if you have the exact same quality of cards (wear,player,stats, etc.) Topps are more valuable (but not by much).
My brother has saved cards for 45 yrs. and his best card is worth $7,000.00. For one card!
He has a whole suitcase full.
The very best cards you get are rookie cards of players that became great!
