What other pitch should I throw?

Question:I'm a pitcher on my baseball team and I currently throw a 2 seam fastball, four seam fastball, and a changeup. I want to throw one more pitch but I'm not sure what to pick. I don't want to throw a curveball because I'm still young and it could hurt my arm. What should I choose?

For yankee fans! boo! hoo! isn't it time to pack it in? even with mussina coming back, boston is kicking ***!

Well if you don't want to throw a curveball because of your age, then pretty much every other breaking ball is out of the question as well. And you already throw a change-up (there are several kinds, but you probably don't need two unless your name is Johan). This leaves you with a splitter, but if you're too young to throw a curve, then your hands are probably too small to throw an effective split.

Honestly, if you're concerned about your arm (which is not a bad thing), and want to wait before developing a curve or another breaking pitch then your only options are the pitches you already throw.

Just perfect the pitches you throw now, especially the change, and worry about adding to your repertoire later when you feel your arm is ready.

When that day comes, you can take a peak at something like this.

This site gives a good of explaination of several pitches. Play with some of them, figure out what works for you, and go dominate.

Good luck.

What does "walkoff homerun" mean in baseball?

You could try a slider, but any breaking pitch still runs the risk of hurting your arm if its not thrown properly. If your not to the point where you're playing varsity high school ball yet, I would stick with the fastballs and changeups - it'll be better for you in the long run. Work on your command. The key is location, location, location. With the right location and pitch selection a diet of changeups and fastballs can be a very powerful weapon - especially if they have a little natural movement to 'em. Look at guys like Greg Maddux, hes made a Hall of Fame career out of fastballs (that aren't even that fast) and changeups that he mixes in really well with the occasional curve because he has great command of his pitches.

Who is going to lead the majors in home runs & how many ?

You're smart to recognize the foolishness of throwing breaking balls at a young age. I think you'd be better off just focusing on mixing your fastball(s) with your change. Work on concealing your delivery so as to not tip your pitches. If you really want a fourth pitch to work with, I'd suggest a circle change. It's easy to learn, easy to throw, and won't mess up your arm.

held like a two seam but jam it between you middle and ring fingers and the other fingers lay on the side of the ball

its a changeup splitter so it drops :)

or a cut fastball- hold your two seam then put your index finger closer to the middle finger and cut through the ball

How come in baseball, when someone runs home, catchers go for the tag instead of just stepping on home plate?

You can be very effective with just the pitches you ise now. The changeup is the most underatted pitch. You know why Johan Santana is so effective, he uses his changeup effectively. If you really want to add another pitch though, I would add a slider.
