In baseball what is an ERA and RBI??
a "balk" is when the pitcher is on the mound and set as if he is getting ready to start his motion faces the plate and then makes any motion that is not involved with the pitch, such as getting set to pitch and then making the move to 3rd base, it could be the slightest of movements and is really up to the home plate umpires discretion, it seems to me to be a silly rule and a few years back the umps when on a balk rampage until there were so many complaints that they eventually backed off and they aren't very common anymore and thats probably what got garner so hot, sometimes you can't even detect what the pitcher did wrong in the umps eyes unless you watch the replay 1000 times and even then you may not see it, hope that helps partnerHow come so many NY Yankees players get away with using steroids?

How to I get my little league team under control?
A shoulder turn, foot going by the opposite leg during the delivery but pitcher goes to a base, hand to mouth (mostly high school and college ball only), just some examples of a balk. Did he step off the mound or the rubber? Does make a difference.Looking for minor league baseball team las vegas 51's?
There are many variations1. Pitches goes into wind up and duznt throw the ball
2. pitcher jump spins to first BUT doesnt throw the ball
3. the pitcher moves after coming set
4. the pitches changes from Wind up to stretch w/o stepping off
5. a pitched ball does not make it to home plate
I'm not sure if thats all but thats most if not all
What is the fastest pitch recorded in history in pro baseball?
A balk is when the pitcher makes a visible effort towards to home plate, and then stops. This includes but not limited to arm moving forward, and the most common is the leg. Usually on a left handed pitcher when hes facing first, and he try's a pick-off move. If his leg twitches towards home, he has to finish. but if he decides to go to first after this its a balk.hoped this helped.
Will Alex Rodriguez hit his 500th home run this year?
A balk can only happen when there are runners on base. When a balk occurs, all runners on base advance to the next base. It is basically an interruption of a pitcher delivering the ball to home plate. The rule isn't pointless, its to keep pitchers from deceiving runners on base and making it more difficult or even impossible for would-be base stealers.
How many of the 1950's Yankees are still alive and who are they?
A balk is an illegal motion by the pitcher. If the pitcher interrupts his motion toward the plate in order to attempt a pick off of a runner on base, that is a balk. In other words, the picher already came set in order to pitch to the hitter, then he decided to try and throw over to first to pick off the runner: BALK.What do the Cardinals need to do to turn around this bad start?
Who said that he stepped off the mound towards third base? If it was the manager, then he was just trying to avoid giving up a run but if it were the umpire then he must have noticed something in the normal delivery to the plate from previous batters. Now, back to the original question a balk is called when a pitcher goes into his normal pitching motion(starts a wind-up) and then decides to throw to the base a runner is at. Now not all Umpires are really strict on calling balks but some will call them regularly whether it is warranted or not. Will A-Rod take Matsuzaka deep over the "Monster" on Sunday?
Any Effort that deceives an on base runner is considered a balk, which ive never understood, why cant you deceive the runner lol.. anyways... If you are on the mound, you can not begin yer motion and stop, thats a balk... yu cant come set and then take yer hands apart unless you remove yer foot from the toe rubber on mound, if you do, thats a balk... you can not start yer leg kick to pitch and have yer foot come back far enough that it crosses back across toe rubber on mound and then spin and go to first, thats a balk too, if yer foot crosses the toe rubber on yer leg swing you must go home with ball... if you lick yer fingers without the umpires prior permission to do so, that is a balk too.. If you set to deliver the pitche to home and deviate (twitch a shoulder, move a head, start to etc...) stop in any way shape or form yer motion to deliver the ball home, no matter how small the hesitation or twitch, thats a balk too unless you first break contact with the toe rubber on mound. There are a slew of technical explanations already given, but the most commonly given 5-cent answer is "an intentionally deceptive action" towards the base runner by the pitcher or, in rare cases, the catcher. For those not familiar, a catcher's balk is when the catcher is outside of the catcher's box when the pitch leaves the pitcher's hand on an intentional walk. It's not called too often, but it is on the books.
Who do you think has the best chance to win the world series?
a balk is any illegal movement as the others stated but the reason it is called is because it is deceiving to runners. i would know cause i balked 4 times in 2 innings. this is why1&2: didnt pause for long enough after coming set
3: moved my shoulders in order to check runner at first after coming set
4: came unset after coming set without stpping off the rubber
when pitching u cant deceive the runners, by flinching or moving the ball stuff like that while on the rubber.
