I was also confused, but a long time ago, Billy Bean (No "E") came up through the Tigers organization, he is the gay one (not that there is anything wrong with that). Billy Beane was a hot prospect for the Mets in the 80s, but didn't quite pan out as a player, but seems to have found his niche as a GM.I saw a story about Billy Bean, a few years ago on ESPN, and also checked out his book in the bookstore. He was married to a really beautiful woman, but I guess he just wasn't happy. I also saw that several major leaguers, like Brad Ausmus, were in his wedding.

William Daro "Billy" Bean (born May 11, 1964 in Santa Ana, California) is a former Major League Baseball player who made news in 1999 when he made his homosexuality public.Bean was an outfielder with 487 at bats with a .226 batting average in a career that lasted from 1987 through 1995: Detroit Tigers 1987-89, Los Angeles Dodgers 1989, San Diego Padres 1993-95. After acknowledging that he is gay, Bean went on to write a book, "Going the Other Way: Lessons from a life in and out of Major League Baseball".
