I think he will, but I am not as convinced as the majority of those answering that he will be a First Ballot guy. That is usually an honor reserved for the elite and I am not convinced he necessarily falls into that category. I think of the best pitchers of the 90s (his prime) and I place Maddux, Glavine, Johnson, Clemens, and Pedro Martinez all ahead of him - so does the sixth best at a position garner first ballot consideration.He will make the Hall, but I think whether or not he is a first-ballot guy will depend on who else is on the ballot.

Come on. Saying John Smoltz doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame is like saying Dale Earnhardt Sr wasn't good at narcar racing. Just doesn't make sense. What does he have to do to prove to you that he belongs in the Hall of Fame? He was a Starting Pitcher, and a Relief Pitcher. 200 wins and 150 saves, only one person has done that, and John Smoltz is that man.His relief stats alone would get him in the hall. As a starter and reliever, he may be the best pitcher ever, surpassing Eck.

Roger Clemens (in the top 5 of greatest pitchers all time) can't even say that. 200+ career wins, 154 career saves, and a career 3.26 ERA. he'll get in for sure. He has put up great numbers over his career and helped the Braves win one championship and 14 straight division crowns. absolutely...its a really short list of players with 200 wins and 150 saves...want it, here it is.John Smoltz. Its rare for a pitcher to get either of those, and no one else is even close to him now. Also, number one in post season victories...more than a lot of guys in the hall of fame. Those three stats should be more than enough. Oh, and he's not done yet. Its not unrealistic that he could get 50 more wins and 50 more saves before he hangs them up. Thats 5-6 more years of pitching, and he should have that in the tank easy.AB-soar-lutely
