Sorry, but the fans are right. it doesn't matter. check the facts -- since 2002, only 15 of 30 division leaders at the end of april went on to win the division.In 2002, only 1 team (arizona) led the divsion after April and went on to win. In 2003, 5 of april's division leaders ended up winning. All other years (2004, 2005, 2006), there were 3 April leaders that won.
You can pretty much bank on 50% of April's division winners holding true to form and winning the division. In other words -- the first 25 games matter, but not as much as the other 137.

Excuse me!!!The dummy fans are the ones who think that 3 weeks makes a season. The dummy fans are the ones who think that 3 weeks is enough to predict the WS victor and in how many games, to tell who will be ROY, MVP, etc. The dummy fans don't understand or want to understand that it's a long, long season, and even at the end of August, nothing has been decided.
So what if the Bosox just swept the Yankees? It's 3 games out of 19 between them this season. Nineteen. All that it proves is that the Sox wer hot and the Yankees were cold, for 3 days. Nothing, absolutely nothing, can be projected from this.
But let's go back a bit in baseball history, and let's take another look at what the first few weeks or so of the season can and can't show the fans with any degree of intelligence.
In 1989, the Blue Jays started 12-24. According to the dummy fans, they were through for the season. But they won the division that year.
In 1988, the Mets dominated the Dodgers during the season. If I remember correctly, they may have swept the season series. But a funny thing happened to the Mets on their way to the WS that years. The Dodgers beat them in the LCS, and then beat the A's to win the WS.
There have been many, many teams that have gotten off to smoking hot starts, and then played .500 or less for the rest of season, and were life and death to make it to post-season. Or did you forget last year's Tigers?
Three weeks means NOTHING, except to the actual dummy fans.
