MLB went on a players strike that lasted through the beginning of 1995. They ended the 1994 season in August and people still wonder what would have happened if the season was to be played out.
The Montreal Expos and the New York Yankees led their respective leagues in wins, Chuck Knoblauch was on pace for the single season doubles record, and I believe there was a threat on a .400 batting average mark.

Because there was a strike. The players (and i am not kidding) wanted more money. The MLB was considering putting on a cap on the amount of money that can be spent, and this is how players reacted.
BTW, the strike screwed the Expos (nationals) over because they had a great team that season, but it was then demolished after the strike because I dont know why.

There was a players strike that began August 11, and wasn't settled until mid-March of 1995. THe next regular-season games weren't played until April 25, 1995. THis was after a new, 6-year collective bargaining agreement had been signed in March. As usual, this was after the owners had been told, by the courts, that some of the things that they were trying to do, and the manner in which they were trying to do them, was in violation of several labor laws.

Bronxblogger, Gwynn was hitting like .399 when the strike struck. In addition, three players were all on pace to break Maris's home run record. I remember Griffey and Matt Williams were two of them, but I forget who the third guy was. Might have been McGwire, but I don't think so.

It also probably would have ended Atlanta's streak of division titles at 3 instead of allowing it to go to 16. Montreal had a huge lead. They've never really put a competitive team together since.
