What's the MLB record for most times striking out in a single 9-inning game?
Question:I just witnessed the Braves' Andruw Jones go 0-5, 5 K in today's (5-20-07) game with the Red Sox and want to know if that's ever been topped. Also what's the MLB record for a game of any length (not just 9 innings)?
Answers:
What do you think about the start of the season for the Braves? Do they have a chance?
I was actually checking this out yesterday. The record for a game (not just 9 innings) is 6. This has been done by 7 players I believe (8 sorry) The record for a 9 inning is 5. So Jones ties the 9 inning record.6 strikeouts in a game - Cecil Cooper (Boston), Billy Cowan (California), Alex Gonzalez (Toronto), Sam Horn (Baltimore), Rick Reichardt (California), Carl Weilman (St.Louis), Don Hoak (Chicago) and Geoff Jenkins (Milwaukee)
(I added Jenkins to my source because it hasn't been updated I assume and I remember that game in '04, plus saw it on another page yesterday)
Here is the link for Jenkins - http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn...
Who is buying the chicago cubs at the end of 2007 season?
surprisingly the record is 6 times striking out and it's held by a host of players that took part in the shamefull record during extra innings games.in the history of 9 inning combat has an even bigger list of names that mr. jones, as great as he is, joined today.http://www.baseball-almanac.com/recbooks...
Will Dale Murphy ever make it to the HOF?
I saw Bo Jackson do that in a game in the Kingdome about 20 years ago. People cheered like hell the last time he whiffed.I think the record is six in a 9-inning game, by some Red Sox loser. Yaz or Jim Rice or Varitek. One of them, maybe. . . .
