Why do so many people hate the Yankees and George Steinbrenner?
Question:i dont know why so many people hate the yankees and its boss George Steinbrenner. i believe George Steinbrenner is the best. if he is in your favorite team, wouldnt u favor him? he has the money and he is willing to buy best player out there. if you have the money and u r establishing a company, you want the best of the best people. he is a classic smart businessman. baseball is business. i dont know why so many people hates the yankees. i think they are just jealous b/c their favorite team has a no money to spend unlike George. that is what i think... .what do u guys think? i really wanna know... .

As said above, the answer is envy. Fans naturally wish their teams could afford and be willing to spend so much money.or at the very least have a level playing field for everybody. I'd be happy if the White Sox could spend as much, but in the end the money doesn't always buy the title.I personally like baseball the way it is, without a salary cap. Parity can create boredom, in my opinion.

I beleive Steinbrenner has made baseball a joke. He has developed very few players in his farm system. He spends exuberant amounts of cash on other teams best players. After that...it has been simply waiting on other teams best players to become free agents or trade bait...and then buying them. I.E- Johnny Damon, A-Rod, Mike Mussina, Gary Sheffield, Hideki Matsui, Mike Mussina, Randy Johnson, Rodger Clemens, Jason Giambi, Tino Martinez, and I haven't even named half of the list. Yankee fans have this self entitlment to them with their "27 championships moniker". 1). Most teams haven't even been around for that long. 2) Most of you weren't even born when 20 of those chamionships were won. Have you ever talked to a typical yankee fan and they have all these useless facts to throw at you? The simplest thing you can say to them is this: GREAT they beat the KC Royals by ten runs! The whole team makes less than A-Rod. How is that competeive. At that rate, they should beat them by 50. Then they come back with, "money doesn't buy it...what about the Red Sox. I just say this to them, Less Successful Yankees...cause they are worse.Steinbrenner is the best? C'mon how hard is it to sign a check? He just goes out year after year and spends and spends. Give me an owner that actually drafts and develops his own talent instead of just buying the best available free agents year after year. There should be a salary cap. Do you think it is fair that the Yankees and Red Soxs can spend Millions upon millions to field teams where smaller market teams cannot? Is it fair that there are teams out there every year that have no shot whatsoever at competing in the postseason or in the series? Look at what parity has done with the popularity of Football and Basketball. It is a joke for you to feel persecuted and not have any idea why it isn't legit. And to say we are jealous? Why is it people seem to think beer and baseball go hand in hand?
To be honest the Yankees are the reason player salaries have gone through the roof! Now in order to accommodate these salaries the price of a ticket and all MLB merchandise goes up to! So in essence the Yankees have priced out a lot of families who can't afford to go to a ball game with their kids! That is why the Yankees are disliked more then anything! So they have won more World Series then other teams big deal because the only one that counts is the last one not the one from 5 years ago! For all intensive purposes with what the Yankees spend on players they are failures by not winning the world series! It goes to show it's not how much money you spend but the TEAM you actually field! That is why people like me love to watch them lose because maybe they will get the clue someday that having the highest payroll doesn't really translate into championships!First off, I'd like to say I am a Red Sox fan and I am against the Sox on this as well since they spend the 2nd highest amount in baseball.
Now, to the point... Baseball is a SPORT first and foremost. Granted, at the professional level any sport needs to run daily business affairs, but the reason for all of it in the end is to PLAY the sport. You don't see kids forming leagues to run a not for profit blockbuster video store, do you? That's because business is a totally different thing from sport. And the root of all sports has a code of ethics involved in it that is not the same as a business because the activity is not the same. The two may parallel each other in general ways, but it is NOT the same. You work out of necessity for money. Baseball should be played for the shear joy of the game, because the spirit of the contest is that great.
Steinbrenner takes the joy out of the contest and approaches it all with a bottom line in mind. Winning is the only acceptable outcome. There are 4 players on NY that make 20+ million a year. The Devil Rays ENTIRE roster comes out somewhere around $25 million. What part of this is fair? OF COURSE Tampa is going to lose when they can't afford to pay premium players what they are worth on the market. Alot of these teams would be besides them selves with joy to have a single player at that caliber, NY has them by the droves. In order to make this league about the sport and not the money being spent there needs to be new standards set in place. And the whole defense of "NY isn't doing anything against the rules" only goes so far. There used to not be laws in place against slavery, and lots of people made lots of money from owning slaves. That didn't make it right, now, did it?
The short answer: People hate NY and Steinbrenner because he is the most flagrant abuser of money spending in MLB, and the money spending is resulting in a loss of competitive games and killing the real spirit of fair play that a SPORT is supposed to instill in people.
