Do the Red Sox have the pitching to go all the way?
Question:As of May 10, Beckett leads the league in wins. Dice K is in the top 10 in strikeouts. Beckett, DiceK, Schilling and Wakefield all have winning records. The only weak link is Tavarez. Is this pitching staff going to run away with the World Series?

Not yet.Tavarez is the weakest of the staff and in the long run, can hurt the Red Sox more than help them. He's decent enough until lester comes back. If Lester isn't getting it done, there is a rumor that the Red Sox could work out a trade with the A's to get Harden. Of course, that's only a rumor.
Can they go all the way with their rotation? I think they can. Of course, it's only May and a lot of things can happen in three months. Schilling could land on the DL. Wake field is bound to tank some games or go on the DL. Their bullpen is great now but so was last year's bullpen around this time and look what happened in August.
Let's just say...as of right now...Yes, they can go all the way.

Yes, they have the pitching to lead them with a strong surge in the playoffs, the real questions are, can their best hitters get hot?Sure thing. Bullpen has been untouchable so far, SP has as well. Daisuke will adjust, and Tavarez will be replaced when Lester returns.

yes. but to fill in for the struggling tavarez the boston red sox will look to willy mo pena. pena was a star pitcher in high school untill he took BP one day and started hitting jacks. they converted him to an outfeilder but he still practices pitching on a daily basis. the red sox will use him as a secret weapon and run away with the al east and the world series.Why does baseball teams wait so long to call a game .?

The pitching is only as good as the team around it. Money has been well spent on supplying a good pitching staff and a good supply of position players.I watched Tavarez pitch for the Cardinals and punch a phone against Houston in 2004. He and Drew are ones that I can see being bad investments, but who knows?
I'd say that Boston has as good a chance as any.

Dosn't matter either way... New York or Boston will lose to a small market team in the playoffs.. GO TIGERS!They have enough pitching to do it, but that doesn't mean they will. It all depends on getting hot at the right time of the season. Does anyone really think the Cards were the best team last year?? I agree that Tavarez is a weak link right now, but once Lester comes back they will move him back into middle relief where he belongs and have a rotation that goes 5 deep. The bullpen isn't all that strong outside of Papelbon. Okajima has pitched well so far, but I dont know if it will continue. Having Tavarez out of the rotation will help by giving another option in 7th and 8th innings to get to Papelbon.

Tavarez was a reliever up until basically the start of the season, he needed time to adjust.Also remember, Tavarez isn't starting against #5 starters here, thanks to some rain outs, and good timing, he has faced Halladay twice, Wang, Millwood, and Santana. All #1.s
He has gone 1-3, but his last 2 starts, against the Yankees and Twins were impressive, He beat Wang, and almost out-pitched Santana, in the dome.
Tavarez isn't a weak link, he just had a bad start while working up his pitch count.
No doubt he will be replaced by Jon Lester which should be an improvement.
Anyway, its the #5 slot, its not that important.
Beckett, Schilling, Wakefield all have ERA under 3.5, the top4 all have winning records, Wakefield lowest ERA in the AL, Beckett most wins, Schilling is doing well too.

Right now their staff is the toughest in the American League (maybe all of MLB) for sure. If the season ended today, I would have to think they would be a favorite to reach the World Series. However, let the season run its course with its ups and downs, streaks and slumps, and injuries. Anything can happen in the next four months.What happened to the montreal expos?

Unfortunately as an A's fan they look like the best team in baseball. Beckett, dice K, Schilling all have #1 starter stuff plus they got Paps in the pen. Look for them to acquire another middle reliever when the time comes to. Only thing that can stop them is injury which is not out of the question.Oh, YES!! And with the return of John Lester to replace Tavaras, they will have an even stronger rotation. This is the year of the Red Sox!!
