The fact that Jeter is a better defensive player is a common myth. In reality, he has lots of trouble on balls hit to his left, and has to jump in the air to his right because his range isn't that good.Reyes is faster, hits more home runs, and if he didn't bat in the 2nd slot, would probably have more RBIs. Comparing Jeter's 2005 season (when he was leading off) with Reyes' 2006 season (when he was leading off), Jeter has better numbers in hits, walks, AVG, OBP, and OPS. Reyes has better numbers in 2B (which is impressive since Reyes extends a lot of doubles into triples), 3B, RBI, K, SB, and SLG.
They were tied in home runs, but remember, Jeter has a short porch at home in Right Field, and he hit 12 homers in Yankee Stadium. Reyes, who hits in a pitchers' park, hit nine at home and ten away.
During the 2005 season, Jeter was 31. During the 2006 season, Reyes was 23. Reyes is therefore a better offensive player.
Reyes (2006): 17 errors in 1320.1 innings.
Jeter (2006): 15 errors in 1292.1 innings.
Reyes' numbers will only improve, and Derek Jeter will decline soon. In fact, this year, he already has six errors and the lowest fielding percentage for shortstops in the MLB with .917.

Ok for me this isn't close at all. For Fantasy baseball, Jose Reyes all the way. Now for reg. baseball the gap could be closer, but still Reyes is almost a decade younger and light years faster. I wouldn't hesitate to answer Reyes either way!Who can explain this on baseball?
Derek Jeter. He's a great player and an awesome shortstop. He gets a lot of RBI's and steals many bases. He has one of the top averages in the MLB. Also, he's the encouraging captain of the Yankees.Reyes
