He had a three year contract

Who was Pumpsie Green?
Whatever terms the player and the organization he signed with agree to, then that is what the player will recieve as long as he is playing in that organization (whether it be MLB, AAA, or AA) Now there can also be some incentives or small print in the negotiations that might pay the player more or less depending on how well or poor they perform that year. But to answer your question, if a MLB player signs a big league contract and is optioned to AAA, then he will recieve just as much as he did in the Majors.
