Is interleague play good for baseball?
Question:Please be as detailed as possible. I'd rather not say what my view is at this point, so as not to skew the answers, and I don't have to agree with you to give you best answer. I just want to get a feel for what other baseball fans out there really think about this.

How do you put on a baseball belt?
It is not good for baseball, but it is good for ratings and revenue. Here's the problem: the schedule is not fair. This year, the Braves have to play Boston 6 times. The Phillies, a division rival, don't have to play them at all. Pretty unfair. Last year, it was the Phillies who had the really rough interleague schedule. They missed the playoffs by a hair, and actually had a better regular season record than the eventual World Series champs. Would that have happened with an equitable schedule? I don't think so.
Interleague play is set up so that teams are not measured against the same standard. Were the Cardinals really better than the Phillies last year? While the Cards were playing the Royals six times, the Phillies were playing Red Sox six times. And still Philly had a better record. The same scenario is true throughout MLB. Pick the teams yourself and see.
But revenue is up. I'm going to two different interleague games this year, chosen basically because I wanted to see the American League teams.
I'm a hypocrite, I know. Bottom line though...I'd like to see it go away for the integrity of the game.
Was there in the past a pitcher named Greg Slupski who played for the San Francisco Giants?
I think it is fantastic. There is nothing better than seeing the Battle of the Bay, and the New York Subway Series.I like to see American League teams attempt to play National League ball, and vice versa. I think it definitely gives more interest into a game that primarily dominated by men who love to monitor statistics and numbers. It gives the casual viewer a more interesting reason to watch the game, and promote the MLB.
What is the alternative? No interleague games? Well, we have 150 of those a year. Why not play a few interleague games and add some flavor to the league.
What player currently playing MLB has the goofiest ritual when preparing himself to hit?
It's not bad, but I don't really see any major advantage to it. You get some hyped series like Chisox v. Cubbies, and that generates a bit of publicity, but it's not really necessary. What I'd rather see is a transition to a single league, where everybody plays by the same rules. I'm a bit of a purist, so I don't feel that the American League is playing true baseball. Why is it that the Yankee fans think that they deserve respect from other fans?
I hate inter-league playI'm a Toronto Blue Jays fan and it's stupid to have our pitchers hit when they haven't done it since college.
I'd rather play more games within our division.
Who Did Reggie Jackson hit homers off of when he hit 3 homers in 1 game..?
I think it's great you get to see teams that barely ever play with each other play and you get away from the same teams playing over and over again this is just my opinion but i would hate playing just a certain amount of teams when there are more out there.Who do you think is the best defensive player in Baseball?
If they could make the schedule fair. Braves play the Red Sox while Mets play Yanks, thats not fair to Braves. What is the greatest baseball game you ever been to?
Yes. because you will interesting matchups, like the rivals in the last world series ex. Detroit vs St Louis. Also having matchups like mets and yankees are great. Fans love those matchups. Other great matchups are white sox, cubs, oakland and SF. Those teams would play a 110% because they want to show what teams rule in their respecting areas.Videos links of why cricket is better then baseball?
further watering down of the national passtime only continues the erosion of the fanbase. when the milwaukee brewers, formerly american league, play the kansas city royals, does anyone say, oh what a wonderful thing? no, its like seeing that quarter of a billion dollar shortstop playing third for the yankees, knowing that is why the ticket is now twenty-thirty bucks and you can't take your family anymore like the old days, so corporations are the only ones with tickets they give as comps to their clients, thereby taking their future fanbase and giving them the finger.Interleauge play is good for the owners. Not neccessarily good for fans though
"But interleague play isn't about fairness. It's about fun and funds. Last year's 252 interleague games drew a record 8.5 million fans, an average of 34,097. Fans seem to love interleague play, and MLB loves the profits."
MLB tries to match up NL teams with their supposed AL rivals. This article is a result of Chipper Jones complaining that they have to play the best team in baseball (Red Sox)
I think it can be. If each division played another division each year. That would make sense, but as a Cleveland fan i see we have to play Cinncinati every year just so ESPN can talk about a Yankee Mets series. They claim its done for the fans, well if thats the case then let us see all the National league teams. Also if it is done for the fans to see the other league then let the pitchers bat in American League parks and use the DH in the National league parks. Fact is its just done for money.
Will Jimmy Rollins hit more than 30 homeruns?
I love the subway series every year along with a few of the bigger matchups like Sox/Cubs.(Catcher fights!) I'll always remember the Yankees/Mets battles involving Clemens and Piazza. Clemens beaning him in the head and basically knockin' him out. Then sure enough they meet up in the World Series and have words. The big interleague series are great for baseball. I'm sure fans of other teams might not enjoy them as much. They're not all intense rivalries. Something tells me that the Royals/Rockies series this weekend didn't draw a whole lot of attention. I know I missed it.
Who do you think will win the subway series (yankess mets) and why?
I think its not in the best interest of the baseball FAN-but baseball owners see it as in the best interest for BASEBALL INTERMS OF MONEY.there's no need for it in my opinion. might as well add more teams to the playoffs. what really do fans get out of having the mets play the yank's? or the A's playing the Giants? seriously? other than bragging rights-which again-isn't about the teams or baseball.
I feel its just another gimmick (like the winner of the world series getting the league home advantage in the world series). but here's an interesting stat. since interleague play VIOLENCE AT GAMES DURING THESE GAMES HAS ACTUALLY GONE UP. so i don't know if that's good for baseball or not-but i'm gonna assume its bad.
It depends. The general (and mostly not real baseball savvy) fans seem to like it as they see teams from the other league. The team owners like it because it brings in more revenue, especially when you have teams in the same city or region play each other like happened this last weekend. Major League Baseball loves the idea (another one of Buds Blunders in my opinion) as they believe it increases the fan base and helps in TV contract negotiations. I believe it creates a competitive unbalance depending. If your team has to play a better team from the other league and your teams main competition gets to play one of the lesser teams from the other league then your team is at a disadvantage. This may even out in the next set of interleague games but it may not or be worse. This creates a competitive imbalance. Since in general Baseball if OK financially, I believe interleague is bad for baseball. The attendance numbers are slightly declining and it removes some of the mystique from the All-star games and World Series.

inter league is good for baseball . it's help to bring out more fans. some cities never get a chance to see national leagueplayers. ony if in the are in world series. what are the chances?
the schedule should be like the NFL. ever teams plays the same teams.as for subways series it the best part.
NY vs Mets, Red Sox play Atlanta. it all evens out year.
some teams up some teams down. schedule made year in advance.
Interleague baseball is about the almight dollar- pure and simple.
The real baseball fan wants and needs to be able to have the argument about whether the Cubs are better than the White Sox, or the Mets vs. Yankees. The fact they play so much makes those games far more important than the games which mean something in the division or wild card races. The Mets for example may have been taking the three with the Yankees too seriously when they play three big ones with Atlanta this week.
Will the Indians get back into first place?
well you have to see it at a fan's perspective in a smaller market where there's only 1 team being a national or American league team just for instance pirate fan's will never get to see a star like arod or a manny Ramirez or a derek jeter unless they see them in a all star game or world series's witch could be many year's away from each other i believe all fan's should get the chance to see all the greatest star's they can see in there life timeMore Questions & Answers...
