If a bat doesn't ring anymore is it "dead" or has it lost its "pop"?

Move to the united states. You cannot expalin it all, it is something you grow up with. Hit the ball, score runs

If you had a chance to manage the Astros, how would you're lineup card look.?

thats a lot of information to learn. you might be better off going to the bookstore, picking out a few books and reading them to get an insight of the sport.

but for basics:

3 outs per inning
9 innings in a game.

Home team Pitches FIRST, Bats Last
Away team Bats FIRST, Pitches Last

HR- Homerun
SB- Stolen Base
H- Hit
K- Strikeout
BA- Batting Average

and so much more.

also, the greatest player in baseball is a little hard, there are so many "wayne gretzky" type players for baseball

you've got

-Mikey Mantle
-Barry Bonds
-Cal Ripken Jr.
-Babe Ruth
and many more

hope it helps

Are you going to acknowledge Barry Bonds as the home run king?

Chicks can love baseball too! I agree that baseball is mostly something you grow up with.. but welcome to the club! In addition to the other answers, there are 9 batters in the lineup (offense), and therefore 9 field (defense) positions: catcher, pitcher, first- second- and third-base, shortstop, and 3 outfielders. In America, the American League allows a desinated hitter to bat for the pitcher; National League doesn't.

A good place to go for info. is MLB.com -- and watch/listen to as many games as you can. The more you see it and hear it, the more you understand the rhythm of the game. It's a graceful, intelligent game, where the goals of the team outweigh the goals of the individual -- outs can be on purpose to advance the runner, etc.

Lots of greats in the game. My personal fav: Jackie Robinson, who broke the racial barrier. He put up with a lot of crap and played the game well, all for a higher purpose.

Go TIGERS!

How many teams used to be in MLB before the most recent expansion? (excluding the expos move to washington)?

That is a lot of info to take in. Baseball has a ton of different little rules. It takes alot of time, and just plain watching to learn them. Even if you read the rules, often you need to see it on the field to understand it.

As far as positions - You have three outfielders - The Leftfielder, the Centerfielder, and the Rightfielder. Plain and simple they go left to right.

Then you have the 4 Infielders. Firstbase, Secondbase, Shortstop, and Thirdbase.

Then you have the pitcher, and the catcher. Pitcher stands on the mound and throws to the catcher behind home plate. While the hitter tries to hit. Anything over the plate is a strike, the rest are balls.

Hope this helps a bit.

Who do you think is the best closer in MLB today?

There's no exact answer to the best players, it's debatable. But There are 9 players on the field 1st, 2nd, 3rd basemen with a Short Stop in between 2nd and 3rd. 3 outfielders and a Catcher...and a Pitcher
The opposing team bats, three strikes and your out, three outs and the inning is over. 9 innings in a game. Extra innings until a tie is broken. The game is over if the Home Team is ahead at the bottom of the 9th (they don't bat, in that case)
162 Games a year, plus the Playoffs, which are a 7 game series. World Series are the best two teams from the American League and the National league. In the American league, the Pitchers do not bat. They have what's called a Designated Hitter (DH). In the National League, the Pitchers actually bat, which is usually hillarious. Hope that answered your Q, can't imagine not knowing this. If I had to choose an all time greatest

Umpiring in 5 minutes! Advice for plate umpiring??

Positions-
Pitcher: Starts all the action. Throws the ball to home plate (where the batter is standing, waiting for the ball) and tries to get the batter out.
First Base: When a ball is hit on the ground with nobody on 1st, 2nd or 3rd base, the player who catches the ball wil throw to first before the batter/runner gets to first base.
Second Base, Third Base, and Shortstop: The main infield positions. If the ball is hit on the ground towards their fielding area, they will try to catch it and throw it to first base. If it hasn't touched ground when they catch it, the batter is automatically out and there is no need for a throw to first
Outfielders: If the ball is hit past the infield, the outfielders must get it and throw it back to the infield so the batter can go the least amount of bases possible. If caught in the air, the same rule applies.
Catcher: The catcher will catch the ball thrown by the pitcher if the hitter chooses not to swing or if he swings and misses.

The hitter must hit the ball in fair territory. Fair territory is in between the two foul lines. If the ball is hit foul, and not caught in the air by a fielder (first, second, third basemen, shortstop, pitcher, catcher or outfielder), it is a strike and the hitter returns to the batters box. It is a strike unless there are already two strikes. You can also get a strike by swinging and missing at a pitchers pitch, or choosing not to swing at a pitch in the strike zone (judged by the ref, in baseball it's called umpire). If the pitch is out of the strike zone, it's a ball. 4 balls and you get a to go to first. 3 strikes and you're out. 3 outs per half inning. Then the next team comes up. 9 innings per game. If the batter hits the pitch over the fence, he gets to run around all 4 bases for a homerun. whichever team has more points (runs) at the end wins.
Some greats were/are Doc Gooden, Keith Hernandez, Sid Fernandez (El Sid), Gary Carter, Darryl Strawberry, Rick Aguilera, David Wright, Jose Reyes, Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Ed Kranepool, Dave Kingman.

Babe Ruth is the greatest player ever.

3 players born in Ohio with 300 home runs?

best starting pitchers ever...

sandy koufax
cy young
roger clemens
bob gibson
walter johnson

best closers ever.

mariano riviera
dennis eckersley
trevor hoffman

best everyday players of all time...

C- johnny bench
1B- lou gehrig
2B- ryne sandberg
SS- cal ripken jr
3B- mike schmidt
OF- willie mays
OF- babe ruth
OF- ted williams

most overrated player ever...

hank arron -not that he wasnt great but he is looked at by some people as the best ever...not even close.he had 4000 more at bats than ruth and had only 41 more hr and 900 more hits...so babe would have only had to hit .225 over the additional 4000 more abats to have the same amount of hits as aaron...not to mention he had only 84 more at bats than ruth.plus ruth walked 660 more times than aaron

Does anyone know any spanish websites that shows MLB games for free?

There is an infield and out field. Every player has a number as a position. The pitcher is-1, catcher-2, first base-3, second base-4, third base-5, short stop-6, left fielder-7, center fielder-8, and right fielder-9. These numbers are represented as the positions in the scorebook. This is a universal rule.
One of the biggest rules in baseball is everyone moves when the ball is hit.
Strike zone is decided by the your height, from the bottom of your elbows to the knees. The the base is the box.
Eg: I I
I I
I__I
I I
