Sure

Should they let john lester for the red sox start in a majors game this year?

It would be hard to play if the thumb is on your glove hand. But sure, you play baseball with a broken thumb or even if you didn't have thumbs. There was a pitcher a few years ago that played Major League Baseball with only one hand!

Which Current Player from MLB has a good potential to hit .400?

Depends on which hand and on if its the same as your throwing hand. I'd be more difficult if you had to throw with the same hand because it would be difficult to grip the ball right, especially hard if you pitched

Do the Cardinals come out of their slump or not?

that might be a tall order... thumb does not equal a pinky

Has Chipper Jones of the Atlanta Braves ever successfully performed a hidden ball trick?

How can you hold the bat? That would be hard. Plus the only way to catch would be without gripping the ball.

Are there any White Sox fans out there? Who is your favorite player? Mine is Thome. :o)?

a thumb is your grip. its everything. from a defensive standpoint, it wouldn't be so bad if it were your throwing hand because you don't grip the ball with your whole thumb, just the tip. if it was your glove hand, it depends on the position. if you are in infielder, it would be difficult b/c you have to scoop the ball and squeeze the glove shut. if you are an outfielder and you play fundamentally, you have your throwing hand in the glove to hold the ball in anyway, so the squeeze factor isn't that bad. the main problem comes on offense. you can't squeeze a bat as tight as you should in order to swing. this leads to a loose bat that doesn't make solid contact which for a power hitter is everything. even for a singles or doubles hitter, all you will do with a broken thumb is pop the ball up to the shallow outfield or hit slow grounders. overall, it is possible if you are a gold glove outfielder and your offense isn't stellar to begin with, but if you are an offensive player you might want to take some time off and let your supporting cast win a few games without you holding them back.

I need help with hitting!?

Jim Abbott played baseball with only one hand...so, yes.

Who here is a cubs fan even though that are really bad? i am.?

Its not whether you can play or not, its how well can you play with a broken thumb. In some cases you can some you can't. In some cases you risk severe long term damage if you play and in some cases if you play you may hurt your team by not be able to make a play or get it hit. Caution dictates its probably better to let it heal first.

Little leages!!Why?? AHH!?

Easily.

Jason Varitek?

Do you honestly believe that someone can catch the ball of throw the ball with a broken thumb? Think about the role of the thumb in holding anything and everything.

Jim Abbott does not figure into this one. Jim Abbott was born without a right hand, and grew up doing everything one handed. That is not the same thing as someone who is used to do everything with two healthy hands who is temporarily not able to fully use one of those hands.

Of course not!

1909 cubs cards?

Yeah, you can definitely play with a broken thumb. I've played an entire season at catcher with a broken thumb on my glove hand. It hurts like hell, but you can still play.

Does anyone know anything about Babe Ruth that I should know for a project for him in school?

No because if it is on your throwing hand, you wouldn't be able to grip the ball to throw it; if it's on your glove hand: a) you probably wouldn't be able to get the glove on or B) if you did get the glove on, every time you caught the ball, you would be in immense pain plus risk breaking it more. Also, you wouldn't be able to grip the bat.
