I am not sure if you meant consecutive wins by a pitcher or a team. However, the pitching records are:
+ Most Consecutive Games Won Ever:
Carl Hubbell - 24 from July 17, 1936 - May 27, 1937.
+ Most Conscecutive Games Won in a Season:
Tim Keefe - 19 from June 23, 1888 - August 10, 1888.
Rube Marquard - 19 from April 11, 1912 - July 3, 1912.
+ Most Consecutive Games Won in a Season by a Relief Pitcher:
Roy Face - 17 from April 22 - August 30, 1959.
+ Most Consecutive Games Won in a Season by a Rookie:
Pat Luby - 17 from August 6, 1890 - October 3, 1890.

The team record for most consecutive wins is the 1916 New York Giants with 26 in a row (all at home too). The only team to win 20 in a row in the modern era (only one since 1935) was my Oakland A's in 2002 at 20 (10 at home).

Who is better, Mets or Yankees?

Best start after 40 games was 1984 Detroit Tigers. 35-5.

But they only won 17 consecutive.

Why are some player, like Matsuzaka, not in MLB 2007 The Show?

To be fair, that 1916 streak by the Giants was 26-0-1. Won 12 games, played a tie against the Pirates, won another 14.

Impressively, the entire streak was at home. Don't see that sort of scheduling any more.
