Selig really wasn't much of a business man. The Brewers had major financial problems. The league eventually had to bail the franchise out. He ended up owing favors to everyone, specially George Stienbrenner.A great deal of compromise was made when Selig was named baseball commissioner. He owed the league a lot and the owners knew it. "Do as you're told", became the unwritten law of the land. So Selig became a figure head for the owners. We've all seen what a mess baseball has become as a result.
