Try a swing away trainer. Take him to batting cages. I used to teach young children to play ball, and I worked on their swing and teaching them patience at the plate

Has there ever been a doubleheader in baseball between 3 teams?

I have several tips, as I bat 4th on my JV Team and I'm a freshman.

1. Practice, practice, practice!!
The only way you can really get better at a sport is practice. Take him to the batting cages, take him to clinics, and just encourage him to keep on practicing. Going to the cages develops patience at the plate and a good batting eye. Also, have someone pitch to him. This will help him to get better at judging pitches if they are balls or strikes. Making contact is as good as and sometimes better than having a lot of power. Also, keep him working on the fundimentals, like seeing the ball the whole way through and following through on his swing.

2. Trigger
I learned this in fourth grade, and it has increased my power every year. What you do is as the pitcher is winding up and getting ready to pitch the ball, have him pull his arms as far back towards the umpire or the catcher while still staying in a good batting stance. The muscles in your arms stretch, and when you swing, it gives you a faster and more powerful swing. This works like a rubber band: the farther you put it back, the farther it is going to go when you fling it.

3. Dig into the box
Digging in to the box has always helped me whenever I bat. I establish a firm position for my feet so that when I swing I do not slip and fall in unexpected low ground, even though I am wearing cleats. Making sure your step when you swing is comfortable and the right length is an important fundemental.

4. Use the lightest bat available to you.
The lighter the bat, the more bat speed you build up and the farthur you hit it. In little league, the bat I used was about 20 oz. and I hit really well with it. The bat you choose is important in how you hit the ball. The lighter the bat, too, the faster you can get around on the ball against faster pitchers.

I hope these tips help your son and I wish him the best of luck during his season hitting the ball.
