Great question, BERNIE N.! I have noted a few answers here yet, I want you to think about them. I do not intend to demean any one, mind you; but; have you ever seen any one tuck their jacket in their pants to look neat?!!? As a licensed umpire I would tuck my jacket; while working the plate; of course. There are, I am sure other personal reasons but I simply tuck my jacket because I don't need it getting in my way as I signal my cadence of strike calls w/ a flying right fist and or a punchout. Not to mention, the coverage of the calls at 3rd base and the plate. With flying clete's you need not have "any" extra outer ware in the way of the afore mentioned baseball shoe! I most certainly could go on with other personal example's, but I think you get the idea. My congratulations on a "GREAT" question! I also congratulate you on bettering yourself on knowledge of America's "TRUE" sport of: Baseball
