Baseball Question?

Question:I was wondering is anyone out there knows the formula for determining how many Games Behind is determined in the baseball standings?

I'm creating an excel spreadsheet for some baseball standings and I can determine basic "GB" but how do they get the 1/2 game behind numbers (ie, 1.5, 2.5, etc, etc) In excel I can't seem to get the exact formula down to reflect the .5 situations.

I know if one team is 4-0 and another team is 1-3, they are 3 games behind, that's simple to see, but creating a formual in excel is puzzling me for those half game issues.

klew_15 is close, but not quite there.

In his formula you basically add the difference between the teams wins and losses

EX: Team 1: 90-60, Team 2: 79-72

90-79=11.72-60=12..11+12...
SO.Team 2 is 11.5 game behind

To correct it you basically add the difference between the teams wins and losses and divide by 2:

EX: Team 1: 90-60, Team 2: 79-72

90-79=11.72-60=12..(11+1...
SO.Team 2 is 11.5 game behind

So, take the difference in the number of wins between the two teams, add it to the difference in the number of losses between to two teams, and divide, of course, by 2.

I'd put wins in one column, losses in the next, with one row per team

Assume you have column titles, and that the team names are in column one, wins in 2, losses in 3 and GB in 4.

((2b-3b)+(2c-3c))/2 = 3d

You can't copy this formula all the way down, though, as GB is always calculated as being behind the first-place team. So, the results for 4c are ((2b-4b)+(2c-4c))/2, etc.

You gotta love working with Excel if you have even the slightest clue. And it blends so well with baseball, a game of stats.

Can any one plz tell me where i can listen live to mlb games for free?

Baseball- what do they mean when they say...?

Ok. Say the red sox do not play today, but the yankees do. If the yankees won, they would gain a half a game on the red sox in the standings

if the yankees lost, they would fall back one half game.

does that help?
