What sould I do to improve my softball skills?

Question:I play 2nd base. How can I get better.

Answers:

Name the only MLB player to strike out 1,500 times but still hit .300 for his career.?

One way to improve on your defense at 2nd base is to stand about 5-10 feet away from a backstop/wall/fence and have a friend stand about 15-20 feet away.

That friend should then hit hard ground balls at you or throw hard ground balls at you until you get good at digging them out/gloving them. When you are confident at that (and getting hit is a good thing...gets your fear of the ball away from you), have them start hitting/throwing the ball farther and farther away from you to build your range.

After that, get them to hit/throw the ball harder and randomly so you won't know where it is going until it is hit. This will help you build that crucial FIRST STEP response. The quicker and more accurate, THE BETTER!

Also, practice throwing off the wrong foot, off balance, throwing moving away from your target, throwing moving sideways to/away from your target...in short every possible way to move away/towards your target. That will really help too as a second baseman.

If you want to get actual game experience practice to make you better as a second baseman with fielding, see if your team will let you spend some time at 3rd base. That will help too.

But mostly focus on the skills you will need for 2nd base. Solid range, speed, and fielding skills & throwing accurately to your target.

Hope that helps.
