Baseball fans. much talk about baseball possibly expanding into Las Vegas. does this make sense?

Question:espeically when Pete Rose is banned for gambling..and Las Vegas is the capital of that? its been said that Vegas will be the next city to get a pro team (of any level). doesn't make sense to me. how about to you?

Answers:

Why was Randy Johnson ineffective in New York?

I can think of a host of cities more deserving. For starters:

Portland, OR
San Antonio, TX
Nashville, TN
Memphis, TN
Oklahoma City, OK
Charlotte, NC
Buffalo, NY
Providence, RI
Albuquerque, NM
Salt Lake City, UT
Austin, TX

How do you throw a slider??

Thanks you. That makes two us with some common sense. Let's hope there are others out there are well.

But it's not about Rose, it's about gambling in general, and it goes back to the rulings of Judge Kennesaw Mountain Landis, in 1920, as the first MLB Commissioner. The ruling was the result of his investigation into the Black Sox scandal of 1919.

How far is it from Home plate at Pittsburg Pirates Stadium to the Alagany River.?

I live in Vegas, so it DOES make sense to me. There are over 2,000,000 people in the Las Vegas valley, and thousands more moving in every month. The short lived XFL was well supported (I bought season tickets) The problem is, to get a MLB team, we'd have to build a stadium first. You know, 'build it, and they will come'. We don't have a professional class arena for NBA or NHL hockey, or a football stadium either. With the heat here, you'd almost have to have a retractable roof stadium for the summers in baseball. I really don't see gambling as a stumbling block to getting a professional sports team at all. If anything, the casino sports books would be able to tell if 'something fishy' was going on, depending on the betting patterns of any specific game, and they could then alert the authorities as to what was up. Casinos are no longer operated by the mob, they are giant publicly traded corporations who answer to shareholders. Everything is on the up and up.

Fantasy Baseball?

Vegas was built by the mafia there mayor looks like a crook Vegas is probably the most corrupt city in the country can any sport team's be trusted there? i think it's great for all star game's and Superbowl's but there's too MANY shady character's there that will try to fix game's and beside's Vegas is the entertainment capitol of the world why would it need a sport's team for social stature ? it's malarkey when Vegas try's to pass it's self off as any other city in the country

How did they choose who got to wear number 42 on the back of their jersey for Jackie Robinson day?

Where exactly did you hear this?? I don't think baseball has any plans to expand and their aren't too many teams looking to relocate right now. I guess the Marlins might be moving eventually but the owner would decide where the team would move. The talent pool is stretched pretty thin already so I don't see any way that baseball would add a team anywhere. If they did Vegas wouldn't be a bad place to go. It's got the population to support a team and it would be another attraction to add to the strip.

I know Vegas is a potential site...but they are NOT expanding MLB. They have talked contraction so why in the world would the expand now? I dont think you read my whole post...if you did you would see that I didn't say Vegas wouldn't be a site, just that they won't expand the number of teams. That isn't being talked about for baseball at all.
