How can four outs be recorded in half an inning?

Question:There is only one way to record four outs in half an inning. What is it? It has nothing to do with a dropped 3rd strike and the batter reaching 1st. That isn't an out, just a strike out. Yes, there really is a way. No, it has never happened in the Bigs, but did once in a minor league game in nineteen seventy something. Any guesses?

btw-if you use less than 100 characters to answer, there is no way you can be correct.

Who will break the HR record next?

If a third strike is not caught by the catcher (and is not tipped), it is a strikeout, and the at-bat is over. If a runner is at first, and there are less than two outs, the batter is out, as with the infield fly rule.

With first base open or two outs, the batter is not out until tagged out or forced out. If there are two outs, another runner may be forced out as with any other ball in play. If the runner reaches first base safely, there is no out, but the pitcher is still credited with a strikeout. Which is also known as an "out", but still remains just 2 outs.

So... two outs, plus what i've just said would keep the play alive, and then there would be a fourth out in order to end the inning.

What channel is the Yankee Red Sox game on today?

Bases loaded. Two outs. The batter hits a line drive to the outfield. It is bobbled and all the runners score. the batter-runner tries for the inside-the-park homerun, but is tagged out at home. Three outs. The defense now appeals that the runner on second missed third while he was running home. He is called out. There's the fourth out.

MLB rule 7.10
"Appeal plays may require an umpire to recognize an apparent “fourth out.” If the third out is made during a play in which an appeal play is sustained on another runner, the appeal play decision takes precedence in determining the out. "

What can the MLB do to make better calls in the outfield?

It's a rarity, but it's happened once or twice. It requires multiple base runners and two outs in the inning with an appeal. A runner is thrown out at a base, usually home. Another runner is also called out on appeal for failing to touch a base.

Even though this is four outs -- thr rulebook even refers to it as a virtual fourth out -- the official scorer is required to record the appeal as the third out.

What baseball player has the best OBP percentage of all-time?

I'm gonna take a stab at it. Runner on 2nd. 2 outs. The ball is hit to the outfield and the ball is bobbled. The ball rolls all the way to the wall. The runner on 2nd scores and the batter digs for home and an inside the park home run. He gets thrown out at the plate. 3 outs. But then the defense appeals to the umpire that the runner who was originally on 2nd didn't touch third base on his way home. The umpire awards the "4th out" on the appeal.

He didn't have to be thrown out at the plate, I guess. It could have been any bag, but it was more exciting this way. :-)

Youth Baseball Tournament League- should you cut 5 players?

There are runners at first and third with two outs. The runners are attempting to steal on the pitch. The batter grounds to the shortstop. The runner from third base reaches home; then, the shortstop tags the runner who has rounded second (third out). The shortstop then throws to first base, which beats the batter-runner for the fourth out. The fourth out is on the batter before he reaches first base, so it replaces the apparent third out and eliminates the run.

Who is your favorite Yankees player?

There was an MLB game (late in the season with 2 teams weel out of the race) about 7 years ago where a team got 4 outs in a half inning because the ump was using one of those clickers to count balls strikes and outs and missed one. I know it isn't what you're looking for, but there are actually 2 ways, the second being human error.

Baseball card question?

men on first and third 1 out batter loops fly ball to rf both batters are running at crack of bat, rf makes shoestring catch out #2 he runs and steps on first for 3rd out, runner on thirds run counts as soon as he crossed the plate, provided it is b4 the 3rd registered out realizing this the players b4 all players cross the foul line appeals at 3rd and that runner becomes the 4th out. the 4th out has to be called or the run must be counted because it came b4 the 3rd out was registered.

Who is the best team in the National League?

4 outs in an inning.

One out, men on second and third. Batter hits a line drive to right field. Men on second and third take off at the crack of the bat. Right fielder dives for the ball and makes a great catch (two outs). RUnner from third scores. Right fielder throws the ball to second base doubling off the runner who left that bag early (three outs).

If the team in the field appeals the run scoring (throwing the ball to third baseman and stepping on the third base) before all defensive players cross the foul lines exiting the field of play, a fourth out is registered, which also nullifies the run.

That's a way I can see 4 outs in an inning happening.
