Although Hugh Nicol had 138 in 1887 for the Cincinatti Red Stockings of the American Association, and Arlie Latham had 129 in 1887 for the St. Louis Browns of the American Association. Henderson is the modern leader though.

* Clarification for the guy below (daddio I think). AA when referring to the Cincinatti Red Stockings in 1887 isn't the same thing that AA means now. Now that means Double A ball, or minor league ball. In the context we are talking about, regarding Hugh Nicol, it means American Association, which was one of the major leagues. It eventually folded, but it is no less valid than a National League record of the time.
