Paying Zito instead of Schmidt though was a good move. Schmidt is injury prone, is older, and has lost his fastball. Zito is also more stable and will be a better influence on younger pitchers like Cain and Lowry as well as the two mentioned above. They should try to sign a big bat for next season.
They spent 2 million dollars on a 16 year old prospect that plays third base and has a lot of power- Angel Villalona.
Again though, I think this year will be ugly. Maybe they'll get a high draft pick and can trade older guys for younger prospects.
Is the 2007 Phillies bullpen the main reason for the teams terrible start??

i feel that they will "come out of their rut"their manager's style of managing fits the veterans they contain on their roster, the players they have are old but they all get the job done
in my opinion the only problem they have is relief pitching and what they will do in seasons to come
Doubt they will...Zito is not that good & the Giants went bonkers to give him megamillions, Barry B. will get his personal records, everone else will play their role as supporting cast, and watch as Matt Cain proves to be a better pitcher then B. Zito...so yes loserville all season long.but, they have a great ballpark & highly supportive fans, too bad they build a shoddy team..

They could,but I can't see them getting in 1st or 2nd.The team is so old,they need to rebuild the team and trade all of the older veterans for youn talent to teams that are in the playoff race when it comes.The Giants GM(don't know who he is)is yet to see the writing on the wall,the team is to old to have anything to do with the playoffs.
