It's how you hold the ball (with fingers on laces or off the laces) and how you throw the ball (from a regular throw to a throw with a lot of wrist action).how u hold and release the ball
If you could change any baseball team's name...?
Your grip, your wrist action during the release, arm velocity, and your arm angle all determine what kind of pitch you will throw.Grip: This determines where pressure is placed on the ball, which mostly depends on your you place your fingers in relation to the seems. This also determines the types of air pressures that can be built up around the ball, causing it to break a little, a lot, or not at all, as the seems help create the friction in the air.
Wrist: This is basically used in relation to spin. The more you snap your wrist in a pitch, the better the spin, the better the break. You can also snap your wrist "backwards" to cause a ball to break in the opposite direction (a screwball).
Arm Velocity: This obviously determines the speed of your pitch, but it also helps add any movement to the ball. If you don't throw the right pitch with the right arm velocity, it isn't effective.
Arm Angle: Can help determine the angle that the ball will travel to the plate. Using the same grip, wrist snap, and arm velocity on a curveball will break different depending on your arm angle. A straight overhand motion will give you the traditional curve that breaks straight down, but if you hold your arm angle so that the release point is farther away from your body, it changes where the same other factors impart motion and air pressue on the ball, but causing it to break down less but also break to the side a little. Sidearm and subrmarine deliveries also make normal pitches deceptive, even if they don't break any different, simply because of the release point being lower, thus causing the same pitch to look different.
If you want specifics on a particular pitch or array of pitches, just ask.
