What should the Astros do with Lidge?
Question:He was money trade bait a year ago..that's all changed. What if Wheeler does not cut it? What do you think will happens with the Houston Astro closer situation? The Astros are at their best when they have a dependable closer. That is for certain.

I agree with removing Lidge from closer and letting him pitch earlier innings. Hopefully he can work out his problems in a less pressured situation. I just think the Astros should've given him a few more innings to pitch before removing him. After all, his first blown save, he didn't actually lose the game. He allowed a run, but the teams were still tied. His second outing, we were already losing by 4 when he allowed the 5 runs, and it wasn't like we were going to make up 4 runs in the 9th inning.Wheeler isn't doing much better. Immediately after removing Lidge from the closer role, Wheeler gave up 2 runs in a save opportunity. Half of our bullpen has an ERA over 5. That scares me the most about this team (Wandy Rodriguez is next on the list).

He is basically a time bomb waiting to explode every time he is put on the mound. Sending him to the minors to get his confidence might actually make him cry and quit baseball so I would think maybe using him in easy situations (losing 10-2, winning 20-5...he might still blow a 10 run lead) would be the best bet until he can prove he can get out major league hitters again. There must be a flaw in this guys mechanics because he was un-hittable. I don't think hitters just caught on to him, I think there's something wrong with his approach. They might need to send him to Greinke's therapist to get him back on his feet.The Astros do have one of the better bullpens in baseball so even if Wheeler doesn't cut it, they could still choose the forbidden closer-by-committee method. Qualls, White, and Miller would probably be given the opportunity.

They have to hang on to him. They can't trade Lidge, he has no value at all, none. If they were smart, they would have traded him last winter. He had a bad year last year but another team might have thought "Well, so he had a bad year, he'll bounce back", and traded for him. Now that Lidge has been demoted to middle relief, they would not get equal value in return. Who wants a closer who had a bad year and was off to a bad start this season?The Astros have to keep him in middle relief until he gets it back. If he doesn't, then he should be sent down, he still has great stuff. If another team were to make a fair offer for Lidge, they should listen though, but that team would have to approach them.
Lidge is pretty pitiful now! he lost his confidence since they played the white sox in the world series. hell i say forget him, Wheeler does so much better than he does. right now im trying to determine whats up with Backe.

Put him back as your closer..Houston has to let the guy pitch, in any situation, see if he can regain some bravado, and get some outs, he's been knocked around enough times to call it problematic. Let him close & see what happens its early. Not like the Stros will be plaiying for a title this year
