Is tagging a batter out before he reaches first (such as a bunt or high throw to first) considered a force out
Question:for example : runner on 3rd two outs and the batter hits the ball to the first baseman.he knocks down the ball and picks it up and tags the batter before he reaches first.the runner on 3rd crosses the plate before the tag ,does the run count.i do not think it does but a ump in our league does.he stated that a tag is not a force even though the batter never reached 1st.is it a force out?

Why Does the Yankee pitching staff suck?
No. The batter-runner is never forced out at first base, by definition. A force play is defined as a play in which "a runner legally loses his right to occupy a base by reason of the batter becoming a runner."The batter is not occupying a base when he becomes a runner, thus the play on him is not a force. Of course, he can be retired before reaching first by the defense either tagging him or by tagging first base. His putout is covered by 6.05(j). A force out is covered in Rule 2.00 and in 7.08(e).
In your play, the run does not score because the batter-runner failed to reach first base safely. This is covered in 4.09.

The term "force out" doesn't refer to being tagged or not. It refers to the runner "being forced" to go to the next base. Your umpire is incorrect ito allow the run to score. The play is still ruled as a force out at first base.Does the DH have to hit for the pitcher, does it say he'll take the pitcher's spot only.?
Official MLB baseball rules below, but the ump has it partially wrong. If the batter never advances fully to first with two outs, the run does not count. If the batter advances to first, but is tagged out after reaching first, the run would count. It appears the ump has applied the ruling incorrectly.(e) He fails to reach the next base before a fielder tags him or the base, after he has been forced to advance by reason of the batter becoming a runner. However, if a following runner is put out on a force play, the force is removed and the runner must be tagged to be put out. The force is removed as soon as the runner touches the base to which he is forced to advance, and if he overslides or overruns the base, the runner must be tagged to be put out. However, if the forced runner, after touching the next base, retreats for any reason towards the base he had last occupied, the force play is reinstated, and he can again be put out if the defense tags the base to which he is forced;
Rule 7.08(e) Comment: PLAY. Runner on first and three balls on batter: Runner steals on the next pitch, which is fourth ball, but after having touched second he overslides or overruns that base. Catcher’s throw catches him before he can return. Ruling is that runner is out. (Force out is removed.)
Oversliding and overrunning situations arise at bases other than first base. For instance, before two are out, and runners on first and second, or first, second and third, the ball is hit to an infielder who tries for the double play. The runner on first beats the throw to second base but overslides the base. The relay is made to first base and the batter-runner is out. The first baseman, seeing the runner at second base off the bag, makes the return throw to second and the runner is tagged off the base. Meanwhile runners have crossed the plate. The question is: Is this a force play? Was the force removed when the batter-runner was out at first base? Do the runs that crossed the plate during this play and before the third out was made when the runner was tagged at second, count? Answer: The runs score. It is not a force play. It is a tag play.

first of all if the runner is forced to first. second if the ball is hit to the firstbasemen , why would he overrun first base to tag out the runner? just touch the bag. Inning over , no run.Who are the biggest rivals currently for the Toronto Blue Jays?
A force out is when the fielder steps on the bag to record the out. If a runner touches the plate before the tag is made it is considered a timing play and the run scores.Why aren't the number of teams in the divisions and conferences of MLB balanced like the NFL & NBA?
the run doesnt count and its not a force out cause he was tagged the first baseman never touch 1rst for the force outIt's a force out. The run doesn't count. A force isn't whether or not you get tagged it's whether or not the runner is "forced" to run to that particular base hence the name FORCE out. They really need to get some umpires that are not completely incompetent.
