Do you think that Roberto Clemente's number should be retired?
Question:I'm sick of people talking about Jackie Robinson like he is the only person to break through the race barrier. Roberto Clemente is to latino players what Jackie Robinson is to black players.
Answers:
Clemente died on new years eve of 1972, when he left his family for the holiday to deliver tons of relief supplies to an earthquake stricken Nicaragua. Dispite knowing that the plane was out of date and was way over loaded, he insisted on helping the thousands that were homeless and dying in Nicaragua. His plane crashed of the coast of Puerto Rico, and his body was never found. I think someone who did this much along with being one of baseballs best right fielders deserves the kind of recognition of having thier number retired by all of MLB.
Your comment about Jackie is a little out of line. He went through a hell of a lot more than Roberto Clemente ever did.
We all know what a special person Roberto Clemente was and he is honored yearly as well.
Who has the most home runs in a week in MLB?
yes as i see clemente was a very good person and he was also very good at baseball. i think that he was better than jackie robinson. dont get me wrong jackie was a great baseball player, but thats just my opinion. Are yankees getting it together? how can they improve pitching?
I think it should. Being Puerto Rican, my dad was always talking about Roberto Clemente. I played baseball from the age of 7 until I was 18 and always wore #21. Clemente, just like Robinson was in the receiving end of a lot of racial slurs. Both great players and great men. But lets remember that without Jackie Robinson, Roberto Clemente might have never gotten the opportunity to play in the majors. While I don't think that Clemente's accomplishment is as significant as Robinson's since Robinson opened the door for Clemente, Clemente's number still should be retired. In addition to being the first Latino player, his community service achievements after retiring are matched by none.
Who can tell me anything about Brandon Webb's history at Coors Field?
It agree with you that Clemente is the Jackie Robinson of latinos. They should retire his number throughout all baseball. Yes, Jackie Robinson did go through more, but still.Official roster for 1982 Milwaukee Brewers Players?

Do you think the Orioles have any chance this year of win the AL east?
This is not the UN folks. There have been a ton of impactfull players throughout major league baseball history. There is no way in the world MLB can retire the number of every single player that has touched us all in a very special way.Roberto is honored every year in Pittsburgh and baseball recognizes it.
Why does everyone hate on the best baseball player of all time, Barry Bonds?
What you seem to be over looking is that this is the US and not latin america. And MLB baseball is played in the US and not latin america. Jackie is an american hero and not just a afro-american hero. Roberto is not.I don't know if they should retire it throught all of baseball, but if it was it would be well deserved.Clemente did not go through as much as Robinson but he did got through a lot.He died helping others, and that marks a hero.
Who has the most walks ever, in the MLB?
Well, the hell that Robinson went through was much greater than Clemente ever experienced. I'm not selling Clemente short; he was a great ballplayer and died helping others. His accomplishments both on and off the field are a credit to the game of baseball. His number 21 is retired by the Pirates, and deservedly so. But retiring it throughout baseball is a bit much.
