Answers:
Do you think barry bonds is on steriods?
Bob Gibson in 1968. He had the lowest season ERA in Recorded history at 1.12... when you are SO dominant that they actually alter the field to give hitters a better chance at hitting, thats a GREAT year.. and in 1968 after Gibsons Cy Young season with that 1.12 ERA.. MLB lowered the pitching mounds around baseball by 5 inches... THAT is best single year by a pitcher i think.r we talkin modern day
John Smoltz O7
ron guidry in 1978 was 25-3
denny mclain in 1968 was 31-6
but the best was Steve Carlton for philly in 1972
he won 27 games for the last place team who only won 59 games all year
Whos going to win the World Series?
No doubt about it , Bob Gibson in 1968A 1.12 ERA for the whole season . Then he pitches 3 complete games in the World Series goes 2-1 [1.67 ERA] in a losing effort but manages to only give up 5 runs total while striking out 35 and walking 4 How could anything be better than that ?
Why won't the Mets win it all this year?
Grover Cleveland "Pete" Alexander set the league on fire in his 1911 debut, leading the league with 28 wins (a modern-day rookie record), 31 complete games, 367 innings pitched, and seven shutouts while finishing second in strikeouts and fourth in ERA. Backed up by: Alexander was the dominant pitcher in the National League from 1915 to 1917, becoming the only pitcher to win pitching's Triple Crown three years in a row, and from 1912 to 1920, Alexander led the league in ERA four times (1915, 1916, 1919, 1920), wins five times (1914-17, 1920), innings six times (1912, 1914-17, 1920), strikeouts six times (1912, 1914-1917, 1920), complete games five times (1914-1917, 1920), and shutouts six times (1913, 1915, 1916 [a single season record 16], 1917, 1919).No flash in the pan there.
BTW the 1.12 ERA record of Gibson depends on which reference you use:
Walter "Big Train" Johnson's earned run average of 1.14 in 1913 was one of the lowest of all time, and indeed held the post-1901 record [not counting Mordechi (3 fingers) Brown}] , though only for a year, as Dutch Leonard would break the record the next year.
That 1.14 ERA in 1913 should have been lower if not for one of manager Clark Griffith's traditions. For the last game of the season, Griffith often treated the fans to a farce game. Johnson actually played center field that game until he was brought into pitch. He allowed two hits before he was taken out of the game. The next pitcher - who was actually a career catcher - allowed both runners to score. Some record books still indicate that Johnson had a 1.09 ERA for 1913. The official scorekeeper ignored the game, but later, Johnson was charged with those two runs, raising his ERA.

Orel Hersheiser 1988.What is the highest ever amount of runs scored by a team in a single MLB game?
Hershiser's consecutive scoreless innings streak ranks up there, as does Seaver in '69 and a number of others, including Denny McLain's 31 wins in '68, but also in '68 is Bob Gibson and his 1.12 ERA. Gibson beat McLain twice in the '68 Series too. So Gibson is my pick, even though I am a Tigers fan.Who will win the interleague series between the Brewers and the Twins?
