When you grip the bat when batting... How tight do you hold it ?

Question:I have played baseabll for 5+ yrs but I seem the hold the bat pretty tight. Just wanted to know how others held the bat.

Just enough pressure to be able to handle the bat with my wrists.
Grip your bat and wave it around in front of you (as if you're going to pull the ball). Get used to the grip you need to hold and control the bat. Thats the amount of grip you want.
Tight grip will just limit your wrist movement.

I'm going to say while waiting for the pitch, you grip enough to swing away, with out the bat flying out of your hands. But just prior to making contact with the ball, squeeze your hardest, so that the vibration of hitting the ball is minimal, and the full force is into the ball, and not into your hands, and fore arms.

I played for 18 years, including college, and i've heard alot of different advice over the years. Nobody can really "tell" you how to hold a bat or how to swing. You have to find what is comfortable, and more importantly, what WORKS for YOU, not everyone else. You can take advice and combine it with your method, or go to a batting cage and try different grips until you find one that works for you. Coaches always say to hold it hard enough so someone cant grab it out of your hands, but not hard enough where your knuckles turn white. Basically just hold it hard enough to keep it in your hands, but don't SQUEEZE, just support it. If you grip too hard, it wont allow for your hands and wrists to roll at impact of bat and ball, which takes away almost half your power.

You want to hold it tight enough to keep it upright and still, before you swing. You don't want to hold it too tight, or you will lose bat speed.
