Question:How is that Boston can buy a pitcher for 101 million dollars that have had never pitched in the majors prior to this year and it's ok.
Dice-K is only marketable in the new England area. And pretty soon at the rate he's going won't be that marketable at all.
The Yankees sign a seven time Cy Young winner in Roger Clemens who is marketable all over the US especially in a Yankees uniform and he's a media whore? WTF?

Why the double standard... it because it the New York Yankees. New York is a bigger market and Roger Clemens has a "living legend" type persona in baseball. More people follow NYY baseball than the Red Sox. I hope Dice-K is successful in his career, but I don't think that he will ever be as successful in the Majors as Clemens.Where is a great Message Board about MLB?

Well, plenty of teams were willing to pay a lot of money just for the chance to talk to Dice-K, it was his team not him that held the bidding war meanwhile Clemens said outright he would only play for 3 teams. Dice-K is martketable beyond just New England why do you think there is so much Japanese media at Fenway, he is a international superstar. It is not a double standard at all, Dice-K does not have a contract that allows him to stay home 6 days a week, Dice-K did not sit out and make everyone wait for him until May, Dice-K is not getting paid 28 million and only working have a season. This is not a double standard, Clemens has been known his whole career for being cocky and an egomaniac this is another example of it. The way Dice-K and him act are totally different, that is why Clemens is a media whore.Does anyone have any upper deck kids codes for 100+ points?
Dice K is a younger pitcher with many years to contribute and develop. His long term usefulness is possibly huge, even if it is dependant on his ability to figure the new league out. But the scouting on him and the experience he had against MLB players before coming to MLB made the leap of faith required in getting him on your team not such a huge leap of faith.Roger is coming in for not even a full season and taking a HUGE salary for doing it.
BTW, Dice K is far more marketable that just in the NE area. Japanese fans all over the country, and world, are going crazy for this guy. The sales of Red Sox stuff in Japan is probably pretty great. Maybe not as hot now as it was a month or two ago, but I bet it is still strong.
Both players, though, are being pimped out because that's the business. Make money off the team logo as early and often as you can. It is unavoidable.

Enough is Enough with the Dice-k AND Roger Clemens issue. I am a Red Sox fine and even I, am tired of all the is Dice-K worth it (when the guy has only pitched for one month) or is Roger worth it, when he has not stepped up to the mound.It's just getting tiring. There are other teams in baseball to talk about, you know.

Had he signed with anyother team, this would not be a huge deal. ie: Dice K signing with the Bo Sox for 50 mil and the Bo Sox paying another 50 mil to get him out of his contract in Japan.
