I checked the Baseball Encylopedia and there have been two pitchers with the last name Garvin.

First was Virgil Lee (Ned) Garvin that pitched for 6 teams in the National and American Leagues from 1896 to 1904.

Second was Theodore Jared (Jerry) Garvin that pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays during the first six years of their existence.

Neither player had a listed nickname of "Red Hot".
