Question:Okay so Im watching tigers BAseball w my boyfriend the other day & for the first time Ive EVER seen this the fans were hanging BIG signs w the letter "K" on each one every time their teams pitcher threw a strike against the our Tigers. Now y boyfriend was a bit surprised that I had never seen this before but alas was unable to tell me the background or meaning behind this...Sooo, what Im asking is, what does the "K" stand for? Why a "K"? I understand its per every strike but why is the history of this tradition? Thanks in advance!

Is it true that ozzie guillen is being replaced by dusty baker?

"S" is used for a sacrifice and "SO" is used for a shutout so they settled on using the middle K as the symbol for a strikeout. A normal K is when a batter goes down swinging and a backwards K is when a batter watches the third strike.

How is slugging % calcualted?

It's signifies every strikeout a pitcher records, not every strike. K is the stat letter for strikeouts. I believe fans just started using K signs in recent years though I'm not sure.

Increasing my vetical?

K for swinging and backwards K for looking.

What is a Balk??

In scoring, a swinging strikeout is recorded as a K, or a K-S. The use of "K" for a strikeout was invented by Henry Chadwick, a newspaper journalist who is widely credited as the originator of the box score and the baseball scorecard. Both the box score and scorecard persist largely unchanged to this day, as the game itself is largely unchanged except for the number of balls and strikes allowed to the pitcher and batter. The letter "S" was used to coin "sacrifice" so Mr. Chadwick decided to use "K", with "K" being the last letter in "struck." Mr. Chadwick also invented many other baseball scoring abbreviations, such as using numbers to designate player positions (progressing from the battery, pitcher and catcher , through the infield, with the shortstop counted after the basemen, at number 6, to the right fielder).

Rod carew, george brett, or tony gwynn?

it stands for strikeout when ever a pitcher gets 3 strikes on a hitter.

What's a good website to keep track of current college baseball and eventual playoffs?

striKeout.S stands for sacrifice so they had to change it to somthing else.K was in the middle of the word so they used that instead.

I have a baseball autographed by the 1956 cleveland indians, what would it be worth?

The K stands for a STRIKE OUT, not one thrown strike. This is done by the fans in most ball parks and tells you how many strike outs the pitcher has.
