He may pass Hank Aaron's total of 755 home runs but he will never "break" the record. Chemically enhanced home runs don't count. If he his 1000 home runs it still won't matter. Hank Aaron will still be recognized as the career home run champion and Roger Maris will still be considered the single season home run king.Bonds deserves nothing! And that's includes no entry into the hall of fame.

He is a major league player who made more home runs than anyone else.The problem that you are struggling with is that when his crimes were exposed he was not thrown out of baseball and into jail. Had he been treated appropriately (as you or I would have been), this issue would not exist. But, alas, he was and is a celebrity, and under our system, is above the laws.

Well, Joe Jackson and the other Black Sox were never proven guilty of anything. Quite the opposite actually, as they were found not guilty on all charges. So the weak, fall back argument of "he hasn't been proven guilty of anything" doesn't really hold up for this kind of a situation. He's never been proven guilty because he's never really been taken to task for it. The closest he was, according to the leaked testimony, he admitted to using steroids.Do I think he deserves the title? Absolutely not. I don't feel like doing the math again, but if you look through some of my recent answers, I worked out how absolutely unbelievable/impossible it is that Bonds hit the amount of homeruns at the pace he did WHEN he did, and that if you take his pre-juice #s, he'd probably have about 512 as of last night.
Was he once an extremely talented player? Absolutely. But he drastically changed the type of player he was by juicing, and I don't think it is fair that he's not being investigated and taken to trial. Hopefully the kid can stay healthy for about 4 more years and average 25/year over that time, then we'll have a legitimate king. I don't believe Pujols or Rodriguez are clean (especially not Pujols, what with the business with his trainer's ties to juicing and the fact he plays under Juice King Tony Larussa), but I find it unbelievable that the Kid juiced.
Oh, and to the girl below, I don't think Rodriguez is juiced based on this season alone, nor do I think he is b/c I hate the Yankees (though I do hate them). I think he's on the juice b/c of his general physical build and I don't really think he's a trustworthy person. I think there are some players that you look at objectively and say, "yeah, he might be on roids", but others that just don't seem to fit the profile, other than hitting homers. I think Rodgriguez fits into the former, and the Kid into the latter.
Now, as for the Yankee factor, I do find it interesting that so many juicers end up on the Yankees. Granted, there's the obvious link between using roids, boosting your performance, getting a better contract and a bigger profile, and thus being targetted by the Yankees. But I just don't think Torre is the standup guy he's made out to be, otherwise I'd think he'd have a better handle on his club in the locker room, both in terms of team unity and in terms of cracking down on juciers.

It does not matter if most people who don't live in San Fran don't like the man, fact is he is on the verge of breaking the most celebrated individual record in sport. The way I see it, as long as he hits homer number 756, he deserves it.Pete Rose still holds the record for most hits, don't matter if he is banned from the sport. A record is a record, same goes for his 73 home run season as well. Until Selig or whoever has the authority rules that anyone who has taken steroids must be stripped of all career marks (which won't happen), his record will stand until someone breaks it.
I am not saying I like the man. I am just saying that he is a great player. How many people have taken steroids? How many MLB caliber players have taken steroids? Too many to count. But of all these people, how many are chasing Hammering Hank's record? Steroids may have given him an unfair advantage. But steroids are not the only reason he is going get the homerun title. So, he deserves the title of Homerun King, even if Henry Aaron was a far greater man than Bonds will ever be. Simply because the title of Homerun King, by definition, goes to the person who has hit the most career homeruns. It is purely objective, no subjective factors involved.

yes of course he deserves it. only if he earns it though. i envy the guy for everything that he goes through. he hasnt been found guilty of anything yet, and the world resents him 4 it. The absolute saddest part about the Barry Bonds debate, is that he was and still is a very talented player. A first ballot hall of famer, to be sure. I say he still is a talented player because steriods do not enhance your ability to hit a baseball, and hit it he still can. He will be the home run king. His name will be in the record books and Aaron's will not. People will vilify his record, and that is a shame, he is a great player who has done shameful things to his body and image.

I dont like Barry Bonds, but until he fails a drug test, he has to be looked at as the greatest HR hitter ever. Jason Giambi admitted he used juice, but all his stats counted and still count. Bonds said he didnt and has passed every kinda of test they have given him. Sammy Sosa cheated when his bat exploded and cork went all over the infield. Who knows how long he used illegal bats, but all of his career HRs are still recognized.
