What do foul balls count as in a pitcher's total?
Hard not to go with Ruth given both stats and impact.Mantle may have been the best complete player. It also could have been Barry Bonds. Both careers hard to judge due to the substance issues.
The hard part is comparing players across the ages - Ruth or Mantle might not be any good if they were playing now given the year round conditioning and overall skill level of today's players.
Barring injury, both Pujols and A-Rod seem to be on the path to have the stats to make the short list. At this point, you would probably have to say Pujols is better only because he seems more "clutch" and a better teammate - and because he has won a WS.

Will The Florida Game Go Over Today??
Babe Ruth. He made the game what it is today. Baseball took off in terms of popularity when he played. Also, despite the fact that he hit 714 HRs, when he was on the Red Sox he was a hall of fame calliber PITCHER as well!SANDY KOUFAX CHECK THE NUMBERS
The best player, as opposed to my favorite player is without a doubt, Babe Ruth. The greatest hitter and one of the greatest pitchers.
